Angry Gardiner issue...

Ok here's the deal.

Whats up with the city of toronto doing some work on the gardiner at 8:30am this morning? 2 left lanes were blocked.

Now dont get me wrong, i appreciate the fact of seeing my taxes at work, but doesnt anybody else think that working on a hwy on saturday morning doesnt make sense? I mean, people still work on saturday mornings and because of this i got late to the office!

Why dont they just do it at night where traffic is near to none?

Oh and to make things worse, a car was stalled in the middle lane!

That's my rant

well actually what they were doing is patching up 2 metal joints that where broken so they were pouring cement in the crevases again.

I do agree that saturday makes more sense than mon-fri, but people still work at 9am on saturday, so maybe if they would start it earlier like hdave mentionned, i wouldnt be late!

I never said it was, or that it should be.

Im just saying that to me, it just doesnt make sens. Weve all seen workers at night shutting down stretches of the 401 or Gard.

agreed!!! that's what i thought too

even if you have to work on saturday, you're just one of the few ones who does... and usually if they fix it on sat morning, its more of an urgent thing... plus they want to do it earlier so they can actually fix it up before monday if something doesn't seem right again =)

since you're new to toronto, you just have to learn to read news and find ways around these kind of constructions, they happen often in the summer... be prepared the 401 and 404 stuff... i remember when they were building the car pool lane... it was pain to drive the highway

Andy,

Dont listen to them, I understand your rant.

I know its stupid how they do those type of things in the mornings on the weekends. But if you think about it, the weekend moring is alot less busier than the weekday morning.
And to do it at night probably isn't so much of an option lol, since people are always going to or leaving the bars in toronto hahaha.

Well it sucks lol, but i guess thats just one of the perks of living in toronto right

ttyl

not entirely true, look guys i'm a city worker myself, i work in the transportion publick work/roads dept..pretty much i'm responsible for causing traffic jams but at the same time we help patch up and maintain our roads smooth (to some extent) All i can tell u guys is that when ever we are scheduled to begin work on a major road/freeway we always consider the public first whether u like to believe that or not. we never begin work on major road or street before 9am to give the average 9-5 worker time to get to work...ofcourse we can never please everyones schedule. Then there are emergencies like when the road collapses and i've seen some pretty bad sinks where two cars can fit inside, would you like us to wait for all traffic to clear??? or get at it before a fatality occurs and the city gets sued for millions and then "your tax dollars" instead of being used for the maintenance of OUR roads gets used instead for other legal sh*t..Weekends are a different issue since we (the city) hold polls every year outlining when the public would prefer major repairs to be done?..and guess what you voted?..but don't take my word for it u can go online at www.cityoftoronto.ca
Get used to it is the bottow line, give yourself more time and atleast be happy that u see those orange cones on the roads/and highways cause atleast it means that one more stretch of pavement is getting repaired!..Thanks if u took the time to read this
