Not saying that all rappers go out and kill. But why portray the role of a 'gangster' in your music/videos and have that absorbed into weak minded individuals who in turn go out and turn those potrayals into reality?

did you notice that your two paragraphs contradict each other?

also i vote for this post to be the most ignorant post of the year.

Not all rappers take pride in killing people and dealing drugs, there are rappers that don't even talk about that sh|t. Me thinks you watch too much BET and don't really know what the rap game is about.

I watch 0 BET.

As for a contradiction...I said they portray killing in their music/videos. Then i followed with saying that not all of them actually go out and kill. Some do yes, but I stated that not all of them do. Therefore I apologize for the misleading comments.

Also about the jarhead reference, when you look outside and in todays schools and such, what do you see more? People trying to mimic soldiers or 'gangsters'? Some influences are stronger than others, and people trying to mimic rappers is one of the strongest ones.

This statement and my previous ones are my own views, opinions and feelings. For you to call them ignorant is ignorance in itself. You could have easily said you support the rap industry in all of its actions and I would have made no such comments towards you. Having an opinion does not mean ignorance. It is an opinion and that is that.

Cheers

I'm with B18C5er on this one since i get the point hes trying to make.

but does it really matter? if you want to see the movie then do it. I choose not. 10 years from now we're all going to be looking back on 'gangsta rap' the exact same way we do to all those mid 1980's pop music videos.

holy ****, is there gonna be little bitchfests in all threads now?

its just a ****in movie

theres bad influences in all mediums, music, movies, tv, internet, etc. and its not just rap or hip hop.

B18C5er, you're probably being influenced by the media the most from what i take from your comments and opinions. you seem to think that since a few shootings/killings happen within the rap industry, thats its a huge part of it, aswell as the cause of violence in society. let me guess, you thought the same thing in the mid to late 90's about Marilyn Manson and the rest of the shock rock crap. you seem to believe everything the media, more specifically the news tells you.

anyways, i won't be seeing the movie. then again im not a movie person anyways.

It's funny how one person I know was making a deal about the Movie Poster with him holding a gun.

Kinda funny that I pointing out that the Mr. & Mrs. Smith movie poster he had hanging from his office featured Brad and Ang holding guns as well.

nah man, i really don't base anything on the media. I am basing all of my opinions and thoughts on where I live, where I went to school and the things that happen around me.

Honestly, I watch 0 BET as I really don't like hip hop music anymore. Once upon a time, yes but I dunno, I just don't like listening to it anymore. I catch the news whenever I can, but i rarely watch TV as it is.

I agree with you, there are bad mediums everywhere. We are just discussing one of them right now.

And the least of my opinions are based on shootings that happen in the rap industry. I'm just saying, look at all these characters walking the streets, trying to dress, act and talk like rappers do. It's so obvious, when you see a music video, any new visual/trend in there catches on so fast. sometimes positive, but in my eyes it's mostly negative. I don't know, maybe the difference lies in where some of you guys grew up as opposed to where I grew up. But Rexdale is a ****hole that looks like it came straight out of a murderous rap video.

Nah man, there's no bitchfest in here, we all still love each other

Cheers

the rap industry is part of the media.

anyone who wants to censor rap at the industry level can go race a car and let bdotdan take care of them.

haha

it should be up to parents to instill moral values and ethics into their children.

i used to love ninjas, demons, skeletons, and 'monsters' as a kid. i used to cheer on jason and freddy. i used to listen to NWA when i was six... '****** with attitude' and i didn't even know black people don't like white people calling them *****. ice cube was the man.

you don't see me running around with my belt around my knees with dreams of selling dope while drinking 40s on my friends lawn all day long.

why?

cause my parents taught me the difference between reality and fantasy... about priorities.. and about entertainment being just entertainment.

(They think I'm a little crazy still, but I turned out pretty good I think)

Funny how when you see a bunch of Mafia type movies or serial/slasher movies come out, nobody bitches and says that it is a bad influence on our youth.

Honestly, if anyone thinks watching a movie or tv is what makes people what they are today, needs a reality check. I totally agree with Bruce and Nova about parenting.

I totally agree. I neglected to mention the parental factor, Parents are the key to whether or not a child absorbs the influences around him/her. But at the same time, when you get older and into your teens, the people you hang around tend to have a bigger impact on your life due to you seeing them everday at school and such.

Granted, I was exposed to a lot of stuff in my lifetime but I turned out right. I have proper respect for people, can speak english without using ebonics and live a decent lifestyle. But in the end, the choice was all mine.

Cheers
