My fathers side of the family is all alcoholics that have caused so many problems in my life that I don't feel that is it my responsibility to support their dirty habit on my wedding day. My mother's side doesn't drink alcohol at all. If people want to be cheap and give a lower wedding gift because they have to pay for their own drunkeness I think that's pretty immature. The idea isn't to get wasted to have a good time. We are paying to have 2 bottles of wine on each table for people during meals if they so desire. My sister had a dry wedding and non-alcoholic wine because she didn't want our family making fools of themselves and it worked out fine. If anyone that comes gets rediculously drunk I will be very dissappointed... Matt and Steve included

Seriously Surfofpink, my point was not to offend, just to express an opinion. If people are so inclined to overindulge, I think that they will no matter whether they have to pay for it or not. It's not a matter of criticizing your decision, you obviously have your reasons for choosing to opt for the cash bar...I've been to both cash and open bars, and enjoy the wedding no matter what the couple decides on. However, if I'm invited and asked to pay for my own drink or food, that envelope doesn't get sealed until I get to the reception for the simple sake that as a guest, I don't expect to have to pay for getting invited, especially when I'm already giving a generous gift to the newlyweds. But hey girl, I wish you all the best on your big day!

Good Luck on the wedding and everything! I'll be going down that path in about 3 years.
