Angry Got Fired Today

I've been worried that this was going to happen for a while and now it has
A little background info first... Just over a year ago i got my electrician licence. After doing so i approached my boss for more money, throughout my apprenticeship he had paid poorly but he is really skilled and good to learn from so i stuck it out. Anyways I asked for $20/hr to start and he said $18 was all the money he could "afford" to pay me (he took 16 weeks of holiday last year). So i told him i would not stay to long. I applied and got into school for next year in Victoria and had only six weeks left to work. Then suddenly this morning i got fired!

End of Rant!

if you've been there 6 months he has to give a valid reason or you have grounds to say hey wait a seocnd thats unfair dismissal and take his *** to court

it's either he has valid reason, and he MUST tell you about it (cuz if he has a reason and doesn't tell you it's badfaith dismissal), or he has to give you the notice that you are due which in most cases is two weeks.

A+ in labour law winter semester, never thought it'd come in handy so quickly! lol

okay, i've been there for almost 6 years. My boss went to texas for 6 weeks in the spring and before he left the company was very slow. So i went to see him to make clear that if work didn't pick up a may have to find another job. I did this basically to let him know so there would be no hard feelings. What i got instead was my ROE. So he left and business picked up, but he never reninstated my as a full time employee. Also he treates me like *** barley speaks to me and was very negative. As for reasons for dismissal he citied errors at work (which i admit i have not worked very hard lately but how would you like it if you knew your peers were making sifnicantly more money?) As well as comments that other trades and customers had made to him regarding me voicing my disapproval of my current work situation. He said it "reflects bad on the company" to have me saying such things.

did he give you a chance to fix those errors? or was the first time he mentioned them when he told you that you were fired. He should have given you chances to fix your conduct and your performance.

Your comments could hurt you depending on what you said, it gets very complicated there, but if it's just you voicing your dissaproval then you should be ok.

It seems though that you are due your two weeks notice (maybe more i'll check when i get home if you want) , and if he didn't give you any he owes you termination pay.

Hmmm Well that would be hard to say as we have spoken about errors before although not since we got into an arguement about money last summer. As to my comments i did not disagree with him when he made mention of my performance although i didn't point out this a lot of this had to do with his attend and money of course. Attitude wise he denied any change in the way he treats me and as for money he said "its my company and i can pay whatever it want" im not overly interested in pursing legal action although termination pay would be nice as im saving like crazy right now in order to move west.

well if he's not willing to pay you for it and you're not interested in pursuing legal action then make sure u never work for him again lol. just find another job that pays well, and make sure you don't use him as a reference, he doesn't seem too fond of u haha

yeah im not overly worried about finding a job i know im good at what id do. Im more disappointed that things worked out this way my former employer was a friend of the family. There are a few of his customers that have expressed interest in me doing work "on the side" for them so ill probably use that as a filler next week while in job hunting.

You can't do that either. In the law it states that there are fiduciary duties, one must uphold. One of them being not taking any clients with you once you leave your former employment. If clients call and inquire as to where you're new place of business is then thats a different story. If your previous employer finds out you're calling up clients, he has enough cause to sue you.

Either way, it sucks, you don't really have enough of a reason to sue him for your unjust dismissal, considering its only an 18/hour job. But don't worry, you're skilled in a good trade, and will find a much higher paid job very soon.

Isn't that only if you get laid off rather then fired?

So, you did not work hard because you are not making what you think you should be making?

I am sure I have some classmates who are making more than I do, and I also know a couple others who are making more than I am being a younger age. But that will not make me work any less or being unhappy about it.

^^ You have a vaild point, and the fact of peers making more money is not my main reason for slacking off, although it is one of them. Last year after bein denied what i considered a "fair" I made and effort to see if i could get better wages by performing excellent work. so i wired eight $1 million dollar plus homes in a row without a single error or screw up. When this resulted in not even a word of thanks or appreciation from my employer just complaints about the tinest issues. After this i basically gave up and over the last six months my ethusiasm and interest for work has gone down the drain, the results of that being quite predictable. Coupled with everyone and there uncle telling me that he was underpaying me...
