GPS(car navigation) question

can somebody explain how car navigation thing works. for ex if i get like a indash dvd player w/gps do u have to pay monthly for it or how does it work. and how much a month if it's monthly. and if for ex ur not subscribed to it if u download like a directions to it, is it still gonna show where to go?

satellite and car's brain (or magnetized wheel)
gps should come with 2 cds (in most cases), that's where the maps come from

whaa thats' sweet. i am talking about the one that shows you on the map and moves along where u go . that's free too?

yup, they get the signal where you are from the GPS satelites, the the software in your car draws the map (using the CD) and figures out where you are and where your going...

Man I wish I had GPS ... the cheapest DVD GPS system I say was on E-bay for like $799 US

the pioneers ones are awsome imo ... they pinpoint you by 1 -2 feet its incredible.. my uncle has the avic in his car... with XM traffic and its so cool to drive with it.. lets you know where traffic is and ****.. really nice system

They had GPS at costco

It was a Palm Zire 72 with GPS navigation and TOMTOM software for around 500$....my friend has it works amazing, audible voice directions....pretty fun to get lost and turn it back on.

If GPS can tell u which highway or street had accidents i would definitely purchase 1. Otherwise it is not worth it unless u drive a lot to far places. I wonder if that idea would ever come out?

it already has in the states...big *** places like LA, Chicago etc...

Now that I think about it .. don't you have to program the address of where you want to go in the first place? Mine as well just mapquest it and its the same ****. How exactly would you enter an address on this things? Touchscreen???

its been around for a while. in europe for a long time.. the new pioneers are equipped with it..hopefulyl soon it will be available in canada.. supose to be this year
