First heard this over a year ago and finally got the book and CD that the clip is taken from ( Into The Red, Nick Mason of pink Floyd )
The BRM V16 was a British Designed F1 car in the late 40s/early 50s
1.5L V16 ( not a typo) it has something like a 49mm bore and stroke and was supercharged using a Rolls Royce supercharger designed for planes. Running 60 pounds of boost from the charger it produced upto 600Hp@11500RPm ( almost double any car from that era)
The problem was it was ahead of its time and was horribly unreliable, and was almost undrivable due to its power curve which doubled every 2000 rpm from 6000 rpm onwards, the skinny tires back then couldnt handle it. Many people consider its shreak, whail, scream, whine to be the greatest sound from a car engine ever, apparently there has been nothing that sounds like it before or after.
Every once in awhile i pull out the CD and have a listen, its incredible
