Mugen C... what can I say, I appreciate good service. For example, this place is all fancy and ****, ppl like me usually don't frequent places like this. Despite the fact I look like I can't afford to fine dine... I didn't see a lack of service from the guy, nor did I get any condescending comments that waiters at places like this usually give. I appreciate not being judged...

im looking for a calm atmosphere, nothing busy and noisy, a place where you can talk without raising your voice, and the eating arrangements are at least semi-private. im not big on seatfood, sushi or spicy stuff, and my girl doesnt eat a lot or want expensive food.
i want a place where we can linger a bit, or somewhere else to go afterwards.
know any non-smoking pool halls? cough them up! [no phun intended...lol]
im poor and cheap but dont want to wonder if theres ******** hair in my food...i want a restaurant that i feel confident eating their food, that i trust their quality..you get what im saying

Good service, I pay 10% or more before tax.
Ok service, I still pay 10%.
**** service, I pay 10% and will never return.

if it's good service I give good tips... as long as I enjoyed myself...
if it was an average meal I give about a 10% tip...
and if it was crap I give no tip, let them know I'm upset and never return.... btw letting them know your upset can have good benefits like at casino rama where the steak I ate half iof it was cooked wrong and I didn't eat it and demanded that they do something about it ... I got a brand new cooked the way I like it steak... free .... (not just a recooking of the half I wouldn't eat)
the waiter got a tip in that case... (one because I walked out with a ton of cash that day and 2 because they fixed the issue)

Kyle, first of all, go to the restaurant that has the Green Pass by the Health Department. That will for sure assure your food teasting quality.
Other then bars, most restaurant are relatively quiet. Not too loud music that is. You are sitting in an open situation so you will for sure hear other people's noise. Unless you go Japanese where they have private rooms.
Those super quiet restaurants are either 1) No business 2) very expensive and people generally talk in low voice.

I am not a Sauga person but since I know where you live, I think you are better off go to Downtown, or Midtown which is closer to you.
Almost all authentic Japanese restaurant has private room.
A couple ones I can think of:
1) the one that's on Yonge, north of Eglinton on the west side of Yonge. It is in the basement. Nice and small, sorta.
2) Yamato, right outside of Bay Subway station, at the corner of Cumberland and Belair. Mid size.
3) Asuka, in the basement, on Yorkville, across from Movenpick. nice and small.
4) Kobe (Japanese Steak House), 9 Church Street. This one is a little on the high scale since its location and it serves Kobe beef so be prepared if you want to dine there. Big restaurant.
5) Sushi Time, on Queen street, across from HMV. Really small, good food and good price. No room and mid level noise I would say. Not too loud and you definitely don't need to yell when talk.
What's so expensive about Japanese is its sashimi. Because it is raw therefore they can't reuse it after a day or two. Plus, a lot of them are shipped by air/ground daily. Hence, the cost is high. If you order cooked food the price is usually not bad. In general, for 50 bucks (tips included, for 2 people) you can have a decent meal, some appetizer plus two bottles of import beer, such as Asahi or some sake even, if you like that.

That too, as suggested by Bruno.
2 fresh steaks from Loblaws, or any good supermarket should be around 15 bucks. 10 to 15 dollars for a bottle of red. Get a smoke simon package and it will be less then 50 or 40 bucks even. Or close but it is made by you.

Cheap bottle of red wine (with the screw on cap) $7
Box of rubbers (lubricated, screw the foreplay) $12
Park "near" a drive-in (tune into proper radio channel for sound) $free
You can't make her feel any "cheaper" then that.
Or... Elephant & Castle, 212 King St. West, Downtown. The food is pretty cheap, but very good. Pub style atmosphere. Good selection of imported beer if she's ugly and you need to put on the beer goggles.

Actually, that $70 includes a $25 tip.... so maybe it's not so bad, if I remember right, my food total was just about $45

I just thought of another place that you could try for a date! The Bier Market down on the Esplanade! I've been there a couple of times and think that it's got a pretty nice atmosphere... nice and dark!

Fawk, I went to dinner by myself the other evening... (don't ask, I was hungry, my friends are broke )
coffee, escargo, and a tuna steak ... $70 it cost me the mashed potatos that came with the tuna steak were the best damn thing I've ever tasted though. It was worth it.

That's what I'm talking about..
Sometimes (most often than not) you gotta treat yourself.
Good food is easy to find..
Good service is hard to find.
What is the total budget for this date?
Lets start there first.

Kyle, sushi isn't all they sell in Japanese restaurant. They have a lot of cooked meal to your liking. Not trying to push you into liking that stuff but just to let you know.
As for private restaurant, if you just want a quiet environment, almost all restaurants are quiet. I mean if you really really want a quiet place to dine, CN Tower is one quiet place. I dinned there and I can hear when fly drop on the table.
What I mean is, you will hear stuff here and there, it can't be absolutely soundless. But the level of noise won't be too great for the most part.
Is there a Marche in Mississauga? Or Movenpick? That's a decent place to dine.
