Hockey Skates

which brand do you prefer and why? also, tell me if the price is worth it.

i've been out of the loop for some time now and need a lil help as to what's out there. i've always relied on bauer.

your thoughts?

I have two pairs right now, I have a pair of Micron Mega's.. my second one actually.. they're really comfortable for me, I've used them for so long that the blade isn't big enough to skate on anymore.. so now I have a pair of Easton's and they're really nice and comfortable.. Bauer's are good as well, I like Mission skates too.. I have a pair of Mission rollerblades and they're really nice..

i've used mission's for the past 5 or 6 years and never had any complaints. your best bet with missions is to pay like $10 and they heat up the boot and you stick you foot in there for 30 min and the gel in the boot forms to your foot, or you can always skate hard for a couple of hours and they're good to go. very comfy and have never had any complaints with them.

it depends on your foot and what your looking for.

If you need lots of ankle support and have a narrow foot... then Id suggest nike skates, basically thats all they are good for. They have the top end last years model for 199.99 at national sports in mississauga. These were originally 599.99 and its not a bad deal. Not sure how much they have left or what sizes.

If you need narrow skates bauer is good but not as narrow as nikes and dont give that real tight ankle support. The vapor series is a comfortable skate and pretty light but the blade wears out quickly compaired to other skates but overall a great skate. Also the blade came a little loose on one of my skates and there is no where to tighen it like on the easton where the bolt is on the bottom and you can tighten it, but on these there is no where and i have to replace it. The bauer supreme series is also good and most of them you can find on sale (599.99 for 199.99 for the bauer supreme 9000 or something like that) at national.

If you have a wide foot then go for a ccm. The externo series again can find on sale for a decent deal. They do provide good support and are good quality. The only problem i found was they were a little heavy but nothing to worry about.

Also easton is another wide skate but these seem to me to be overpriced for what you get unless you go for top end which is expensive. My brother has a pair and the bolts rust and the blade came loose and has to keep tightening it and its hard when there is rust on the skate. They are light and confortable though. I dont know about the models as I never liked easton to much.

errr graph skates are really light... thats all i can say about them.. if you have them.. you hate them or love them.. and its one or the other... they are expensive.. but they are light and many say they are confortable and many say they they hurt...

lastly, mission skates... umm they are in the middle.. narrow and wide... not really to one side.. lots of support, and once you break them in they are confortable. They are a little on heavy side but nothing to worry about. You can get good deals on whats left of them.. theres not a lot of missions around any more.

hope this helps.

Don't buy Easton
I just bought a pair that were very comfortable and light but the problem with them is that the blades warp very easily. I intend on getting rid of mine ASAP (not worth ~$300)

I've had Bauer or Grafs all my life and although they are expensive they last forever. I only bought the Eastons because they were wide enough and comfortable. Now I'm going to get CCM's. I would get Bauers but now they're too narrow compared to 10 years ago.

Good luck

grafs are excellent (esp. after you get em baked), but super expensive so if it's not for professional hockey don't bother.

stick with bauer, vapour it if just for fun. not too expensive and they do the job.

i had a nice pair of Tour blades. ive worn everything from easton, ccm, bauer, nike, to my current missions, and climax hit the nail on the head.

although if these are for recreation id shoot for mission, relatively inexpensive compared to the rest, and ive found them to be quite durable.

^^ yeah out of them all Id say missions are very durable, probally he most durable and for a good price. Good stores to check out are any of the source for sports or just hockey which is in brampton I think or national sports which always has good sales.

there is also west star on unity road off of winston churchill just south of the 403 in mississauga. I've always favored the missions because i have a somewhat wide foot so they are perfect. i used to use bauer and they were a good skate as well. but climax pretty much got everything right on. very informative climax two thumbs up

I paid a pretty penny for my skates back 3 years ago. The have lasted along time and have no complaints. I know of people that have bauer skates and the blade of the skate will break. Its weird, it actually snaps in half in the middle, but you wont noticed untill you try to pivot and fall flat on ur face.......

I have a pair of bauers from the vapor series and the blade is a little wobbely which can be annyoing so im hoping to take of the blades and get a new pair maybe from a higher end model if they will fit.

I dont know if anyone has tired the reebok skates or knows about them to get an opinon but from what ive heard they are decent.. but they are new so none really are on sale yet.. the high end models are expensive and the other models are decently priced from what i have seen.

I could only find products on sportchek's website for pricing... source for sports and national sports dont have the information on the website about what skates they have and prices like sport chek. They have good listing of products and some are not that bad. www.sportchek.ca
