I have the Pioneer Elite VSX-41 Pioneer of Canada - English - Elite A/V Receivers, currently running 3.1. It's alright, though i still love my old Denon (aka Sony) and my buddies old Yamaha.

I heard some of the harmon kardon receivers a while ago, which i found them to be much more powerful than their specs. I believe it was something to do high-current??

Bay Bloor radio and East Hamilton radio have some great home theatre set-ups, in which i highly suggest going to check them out.

Yeh Marantz def makes good equipment. My dad has an older Sr3001 that we use strictly for 2ch and it has a very warm rich sound. Allot of the new receivers have smaller transformers and don't have a full sound to them, and output tends to clip badly when you drive them allot.

If the receiver feels heavu and you can see a big transformer and big capacitors inside it is definately built more robust.

Denon also makes a good receiver. We deal strictly with Denon and Yamaha at work and the Denons offer good bang for the buck. They offer top of the line video processing as well as Audyssey Dynamic Volume and EQ.
