Home Theatre

I don't think you will get anything good for under 1k
The cheapest home theater right now is like 300$ plus tax. The you will have to find a tv for under 700 , maybe you could grab a 42 plasma for that price
Possible I gues , it will be more with tax it but close to your budget
There is nothing on sale for home theatres at future shop , maybe you could wait and see if something better comes out
Now if you buy it used , you should be able to find something better

My dad bought his at audio 2001 , they had a lot of choices
2001 Audio/Video
He bought sony and it sounds amazing , I believe this is the one he bought not too long ago
2001 Audio/Video
it was very close to a 1000$
I think you could go there and they can show you what each sounds like , i m not too sure though

My personal setup:
2 In ceiling Yamaha speakers (120 watts max)
2 in wall Yamaha speaker (120 watts max)
1 in wall Yamaha center channel (130 watts max)
1 Sub (crappy for now, building a better one)
1 Sony audio/video receiver (600 watts) could be better but ah well.
Speakers at MSRP would have run me about 1200.00, purchased all of them off Ebay for a total of 400.00. Receiver was on sale from $300 for $200... like I said could be better, but good enough (if I had the money I would have got the Yamaha receiver as well)
System is great, no need to every go to max volume by any means, optical digital inputs for true 5.1 which is great because my HTPC is connected to it and with all the movies I've got on there I couldnt ask for more.
So for about $700 and looking around you can find something DECENT, not amazing, not "blow the windows out" loud, but definitely shake the walls and good sounding. I'll admit I need a better sub, beyond that I'm pretty pleased. Lets put it this way, it's loud enough that the wife hates it, I think that's a fair scale.
BTW HT's in a box are as crappy as they come.. Worked at Best Buy for a while and even with an 'at cost' discount" I wouldn't touch em, about the only useful (not good...useful) thing is the receiver... speakers, forget about it... UNLESS your going with Bose.
Harmon Kardon makes a great receiver as well... but I can't justify about $800 on the receiver alone
