How to control traffic lights...

well, technically, your not CONTROLLING them, but theres a trick that me and my friends have been using for a long time on advance left hand turns in the GTA...

some of you likely already know this...

as your approaching the intersection in the DETICATED left hand turn lane, at most lights in the gta where there is a ADVANCE left hand turn light, with the arrow thingy [ <- ] there is also a weight sensor in the ground, set about 2-4 car lengths back, so if there is a line up of cars they will get an advance, but if there is just 1 or 2 cars, they wont get an advance.

so all you need to do is watch the pavement as you approach the stop line [while the light is still red for you] and look for irregular markings in the pavement...usually it looks like a square or rectangle shape made out of tar, its where they did the cut out to insert the sensor, or so im guessing...

anyways, if you stop your car with your cars weight sitting on it, regardless of there being no one ahead of you or behind you, it will usually trigger the advance left turn, which will usually result in a advance left for the opposite traffic, or an advance for the straight moving traffic going your direction..because it thinks theres your direction or your lane has enough cars for an advance.

some of the intersections, you will notice have 2 or 3 cut outs, where cars often get backlogged during rush out, depending how many sensors are down, the longer the advance.

sometimes they dont work because the car is to far to one side in the lane or there tire isnt over the sensor, because your cars weight has to be transfered through a tire, or two if possible...the sensors vary in size, depending on the intersection...

this is a very annoying thing to do in rush hour, because you hold up all the traffic around you for 10 sec for one car...lol but sometimes you dont feel like waiting a whole light change to get through

sometimes people look at you funny, when your 4 spaces back, they think your car stalled or something...and if a car comes behind you and you know the sensor is in the 4th space, move to the 3rd and hope they landed on the 4th...

now maybe i need to focus my energy on something more useful, but i like to feel in control, and if i can save a few minutes waiting at lights every day...why not, its free

Ahaha such old news, been doing this for quite a while. I don't give a crap how people look at me, I will stay there until a car is coming up, and you can start creeping up when the lights are yellow. This doesnt work at all intersections with sensors, it depends on the programmed hours. I found another technique on Warden lol, its going to save a lot of time. Dont care whos looking, just stop if you dont want to wait, and I dont care if the other side has 1 car, I'm still going to advance green.

I always thought it was a weight sensor too, til I read up on it.

there is actually a wire embedded into the ground, in which there is a current flowing. when you put a large metal object in the 'field' i.e. a car, it acts as a conductor and completes the circuit. thus the intersection knows there is a something waiting. I know there is no contact with the wire itself but the frequency of the current is low enough that it can travel without contact.
