How To Quit Smoking!!! Help!!!
Im going crazy! i've been trying to quit on and off for a couple of weeks just can't kick the habit. I've cut down in the last little while but thats not good enough. It gets boring not smoking so what to do? Has anyone here successfully quit smoking? And what did you do to quit. What you do to kill time etc? Any advice would be helpful thanks.

well, different things work for different ppl. u might have to try a few things out. the key is to being proactive and remaining positive if one thing doesnt work out for u. some of my friends quit cold turkey, some have quit by cutting down until they totally quit, and i know 1 person who used the patch. all have had success, but once in a while they falter as do i. the other key is to quit when ure READY to quit so that u take it seriously. most importantly, u must have self-discipline...that's pretty much all it takes. good luck.
ps there r 400 known carcinogens (cancer-causing agents) in cigarette smoke and god only knows how many UNKOWN carcinogens there r left to discover. i have a toxicology background so i know wut i'm talking about.

I am 130 days cigarette free, I smoked for 13 years.
The problem most people have with quitting smoking is that they are looking for some kind of magic bullet that will instantly eliminate any cravings or need for self control.
The reality is that quitting smoking is a decision that requires you to make a commitment and make an effort every single day.
There is no secrets, you just have to try and keep trying.

My dad did quit.. but he quit once he got cancer and it was too late. He passed away Oct. 9th/1996 at the age of 35. I will never, ever.... under any circumstance, smoke. That includes tobacco and other substances.

Well...my bro's girlfriend was trying to quit also, so she went on the Nicorette gum. She successfully quit smoking, but she got addicted to the gum (which is more expensive than smokes).
Moral of the story...there isn't one.
My brother tried so many different things to quit as well, but he quit because he couldn't afford to buy them anymore. He used the empty wallet technique.

i think that there r some studies that show that nicotine itself can cause cancer. i would juss do it cold turkey. afterall, nicotine is the chemical that gets u addicted to smoking in the 1st place so of course ure gonna get hooked on the gum too.

Try and pick up a hobby or something. Work out, go for walks, etc. I'll be smoke free for 2yrs coming Dec.22. @ 1st it was hard because like you said you have to find someting to kill time. I started to eat and read and stuff. Over time you won't think about it any longer.
Good luck

Here's what you do:
1. Get yourself a calculator, pen/pencil, and paper.
2. Sit down and figure out how many packs you buy a day or week.
3. Multiply the above amount by 52 weeks.
4. Gasp at the amount you spend when the money can go towards something more useful.... like car parts n stuff.
5. Show us the results, so's we can flame you for spending so much hard-earned cash.
6. QUIT!!!!!!!
OPTIONAL:
7. Repeat above steps when you find that you're starting to cheat... ON YOURSELF.
'Nuff said!... Any questions?
