if you go into your configuration of your router by accessing it through your web browser.... Usually 192.168.1.1 then there should be a security option where you can use an enrypted wep key. Just follow the instructions. You'll need to enter the encrypted wep key to gain access to the wi-fi network from your laptop\desktop accessing the wi-fi router.

As Moe said,

In your router setup, you set bit-encryption on @ 64 bit (good enough). Put in a key word, for which it will provide 8 (i think) hex codes. so like 1A 3B BE DC, etc.. Save the router settings.

Then on the WIFI computer, setup the WIFI to connect to your network. You'll have to add the Key in.. Which is the Hex codes you got from the router.

MAC filtering is lame because then you have to setup every computer on the router everytime.

With WEP, all computers are open as long as you got the key.

You should also assign a dedicated IP to fixed PCs, just so you can setup a workgroup and manage everything easily without having IPs changing on you.

Once you enter a keyword in the Security Section of the Routers web interface then the software will use the keyword to make a 64bit encrypted 8-bit Hex code. So in plain english the Web Key depends on what you enter as a keyword, and you get it from the routers web interface.

It kind of works like a Keygen when need a serial key for your pirated software.

Set up a wep password as well as some MAC address filtering. Works fairly well.
