HP... you suck

I hate PC's. It doesn't seem to matter what make they are, they always seem to be unpredictable. My wife has an acer and it sucks ***, she has had it for 1.5 years and has had to re-install crappy vista 3 times on it. I finally gave up and went and bought a MAC. This thing is awesome, is fast as hell, zero problems, and much more user friendly than a pc. If you look on kijiji you should be able to find one for less than a grand. Just my .02.
i guess you also hate women because they are unpredictable and cause problems.

Get used to it. Technology will fail, no matter what brand. MAC's are great but people don't like to tell you about the bad things, only the good things, because they want to show others their "good image"
My brother had a MAC laptop break on him about 6 or 8 times. He ended up selling it after fixing it. He now has another MAC...not sure when it'll break but when he does, I'm sure he'll keep quiet about it.

HP laptop died yesterday. Totally out of the blue, the hard drive failed. I really only used it to surf the net, but I had a ton of photos and most of my music library on it.
For all the crap that HP and Microsoft is always trying to get you to download and/or update, you would think they would come up with something to warn you of a potential failure. My laptop is now a paperweight. No warning. No replacement, No repairs. Nothing. Everything on the hard drive is just POOF! Gone.
I would be like the motor in my car suddenly taking a dive for no reason and Honda telling me TFB, you need a new car, take the bus in the mean time sucker.
The Sony VAIO of my wife's that I'm using now works great, but it's pink and isn't doing much for my masculinity. So, whats a decent laptop thats not made by HP and wont cost me more then $1000?

Most BIOS these days have S.M.A.R.T. built in which should warn you that your drive is about to die.

also, even if the drive is failed, you can still try sata to usb converter to try pluggin it in to another computer/laptop to see if you can read anything
or if its a sata drive you can even just plug it directly into a desktop pc motherboard
i do this at work all the time...or used to when i was desktop support

I'm getting it back today, so I will try a few things.
The problem that started all this was that the thing turned itself off the other day and it won't boot back up. I try to turn it on and nothing happens. The screen stays black eccept for Err1Err3 in the top left corner.

I was thinking the same thing about Microsoft. My 360 randomly stopped working today, giving me an error message (E74). I go on their website to try to get it repaired under warranty and their site also gives me an error message!
When I call their support number I speak to someone who tells me that an email "should probably" be sent to me in "around 24 hours" with the repair information and shipping documents. Ended with, "call back if it doesn't arrive though". Sounds reassuring.
