ICQ question.......???
#21
Have any of you tried Trillian? They have a free version and then a pro version. Both work quite well. It combines ICQ, MSN, AOL, IRC, and Yahoo chat, all into one client. Fully reskinable, very nice. I've used it for quite sometime.

1. Making a clean install:
- install it
- before the first start of ICQ delete the ICQhttp.dll (Close ICQ At the "add user" screen.)
- Delete the AteBrowser folder and create a "Read Only" text file named AteBrowser (No Extension)
- set Auto Update = No ( Registry Instructions ) This may not be necessary but i would do it just to be safe.
- your ICQ will stay add-free forever ...

Great.
Why couldn't you of posted this earlier?
NOW, the old version I DL'ed, was only able to logon 2 times........both times it said there was an updated verion.....I click no. (I already knew it would be the one with adds)........well.......when I went to logon today, the same thing poped up again.....but this time, it said I HAD to update.
:fustrated What the fuqk is that?!? :fustrated
I didn't want to, but when I clik no, it shuts down. FAQK!!:fustrated
Now I'm pissed.
Even when I unistalled/reinstalled it, it still says the same thing. (I guess my ICQ # is already in there data base as saying I have the old version)
This is TOTAL BS!!
NoSpleeny, what you said in your post is engrish to me.
Can you do the mods, and send me the modified version to my e-mail please? I wouldn't know where to start that mod.
PM me a more detailed explanation to my PM if you want.
Thanks.

I'll post it here just incase everybody's interested. I figured (after I already PMed PULOVR).. I should share the "essay" I just wrote.
1. Making a clean install:
YOU MIGHT STILL BE ABLE TO DO IT AFTER YOU INSTALLED IT ALREADY!.. WOULDN'T HURT TO TRY IT ANYWAYS!
- install it (IT == ICQ)
- before the first start of ICQ delete the ICQhttp.dll (Close ICQ At the "add user" screen.) (go to the ICQ directory you installed it to... usually C:/Program Files/ICQ or something and delete a file there called ICQhttp.dll)
- Delete the AteBrowser folder and create a "Read Only" text file named AteBrowser (No Extension) (you find the folder in the ICQ directory called AteBrowser and delete it.. right click and empty space in the explorer you're using to view the ICQ directory and go NEW --> Text Document --> call the text document "AteBrowser"... it'll default to AteBrowser.txt. You need to remove the .txt so it's not "AteBrowser.txt" but rather "AteBrowser" only)
- set Auto Update = No ( Registry Instructions ) This may not be necessary but i would do it just to be safe. (Start --> Run --> "RegEdit" --> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE --> SOFTWARE --> now you find ICQ or Miraballis or something like that.. click it --> look for AUTO UPDATE on the right hand side and change the value from YES to NO.
- reboot
- your ICQ will stay add-free forever ...
