incompetent English skills

I agree with what some people are saying about others who immigrate to Canada from other countries. I have nothing against people who are coming to better their lives in Canada, and I realize that these people will, for the most part, have an accent when speaking English, and their writing skills won't be, at least in the beginning, up to par.
That being said, I don't think there is any excuse for Canadian born kids not to know how to properly write in English, and it amazes me to see how many, on this forum alone, have no clue how to write. I'm not even talking about punctuation, syntax, or using the same tense in one sentence. I'm talking about basic skills like knowing the difference between “they’re/their/there; it’s/its; weather/wetter/whether; ran/run; were/where”, only to list a few. On this Chitchat section you will notice one guy spelled “surgery” as “surgery”. I mean, come on.

It seems to me that the internet is to blame for a lot of these people's poor grammar. A lot of people have gotten lax with their grammar thanks to msn and the almighty spelling/grammar check in MS word. It would be nice if TCC had a grammar check before you post, it would make a lot of people's posts a hell of a lot easier to read. But really, the only word that really gets on my nerves is "dun" which I believe replaces "don't"? I don't know why, but whenever I see someone spell it like that I get aggravated lol.
Back to Bruce's coworker, seriously, if that person was born in Canada and they still spell like that, they should go back to grade 9 english. Maybe you can help her by giving her some grammar sheets too.
