tremendously overrated...the average Li-ion battery can get over 400 charge cycles before it looses 20% of its charge capacity (assuming you take care of it, don't leave it in the car, etc)...

you could easily get 2 years out of that...

although having a removable battery is nice...

yea...well removable batteries are nice on devices that lock up and you cant reset them without taking out the battery...luka apparently had a problem like that he never said if he got it to reset using the appropriate method

now if WM devices didnt have removable devices then there would be a huge problem

on a related note, I was listening to a podcast today, they ran a restore on an unlocked and jailbroken iphone...

-the apps that were installed by the user (via jail breaking) were gone with the restore
-any user modifications were gone
-the unlock was STILL in place, apparently because the changes are made at the modem level on the phone, they do not get changed with a restore....

This is good and bad, if your phone gets messed up means you won't have to unlock it again...HOWEVER, also means that there might be warrenty issues if Apple can figure out you unlocked the phone.

Also, there is a rumour that firmware 1.0.11 or something is due out soon, which will cause problems for unlocked phones...but just a rumour...Although having said that, you don't have to update your phone...

something to think about before you make the trip across the border (although it is a great time with teh dollar!)

its kinda hard to reset it "the proper way" when the entire device including the touchscreen is frozen

There are a few ways to address the symptom described above.

In cases where there is an image of an iPhone application such as Calendar or Safari visible on the screen, you may be able to close that application by pressing and holding the Home button on the front of the iPhone for 6 seconds until the program closes.
If this technique does not resolve the issue or the iPhone is in a different state such as showing a persistent Apple logo on the display, you can reset the iPhone. To reset the iPhone, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds.

neither of those methods worked
