also, its not like we're going to sit here and not further develop our multimedia interfaces, etc. so in the end that might not even be a deciding factor either.

yep
but look where it left motorolla
they're doing nothing but losing money now
RAZR was a one hit wonder and they haven't done anything interesting since and now they're paying the price for it.
And they also aren't expecting to become profitable again for at least another year.
Edit - you also have to factor in the fact that RIM is now adding over 1 million subscribers per quarter as well.
And we just, after 7 years of trying, got permission to sell in China
I'm afraid to see what happens next.

Having said that, I'm not to sure if I would quickly lump Apple in with Moto...entirely different beast...

No, I'm not. But what people don't understand is that BlackBerry isn't a device, it's a platform.
It's not as simple as Apple making a phone that can receive real time email to compete with the BlackBerry. There's way more that goes on behind the scenes that we have years of experience with that they don't.
Some important things like the security, etc. BlackBerry Enterprise Servers, etc etc.
Businesses wouldn't invest all this money into a BlackBerry platform and then switch to an iPhone just because it receives realtime email and looks cool.

Consumers sure. But that's why we are going after the consumer market now as well. I moved from the waterloo office to the mississauga office and this whole place is nothing but developers so I've seen some of the multimedia interfaces they're working on. They look pretty cool and are a lot more advanced then what BlackBerry's offer right now.
It's not as crazy as anything Apple will do, but it should be enough to attract consumers.
And in the end, the business user is still always our #1 customer. It's that reason even that some of the new devices have cameras and some don't. A lot of businesses consider them a security risk so it's actually a feature to them to NOT have a camera.

Sounds like there are some interesting things going on over there, any good job openings you want to pass along?

for as long as the iPhone has a touchscreen, I can never see it becoming popular as a business device.
It took me about 8 minutes and 7 or 8 tries just to type in a WEP key.

the biggest problem for me was that its way too easy to make mistakes and all your focus has to be on typing. I can't type on that thing with one hand while driving a car like i could with a blackberry. It seems like you need tiny fingers to use it properly too. There was also issues with lag here and there. You push T, wait a second, nothing happens. Push it again and two T's appear lol.

You can't argue my opinions when you've never used one like I have. And what does this have to do with my job? I don't develop BlackBerry's. If you have nothing useful to add to the conversation you're welcome to leave. Noone really cares about your RIM CEO comments, thanks.

Nope, I had a nice strawberry/vanilla shake for breakfast.
you don't seem to understand how old and annoying your posts get. Do you think they're funny or something?
I think you need a new job to keep you a little busier at work.
