IS300 possible buy?
I am planning on getting an IS300 used.
I have read tons of articles on the Lexus V6 oil sludge problem that Toyota has, but I don't know it first hand, nor do I know anyone that has one. I have seen tons of IS300 in Autotraders, about 90% of all the IS300 have around 50,000 - 60,000 KM, selling for real cheap. All I know is, in this world, if something is too good to be true... you know the rest.
Anyone know anything? Is it because of insurance? Why do people get rid of almost new cars?

v33k - I was not thinking when I was typing, but I think ppl all know... no need for engine codes, either.... thanks
Just reliable or any problems in the above mentioned section. Thanks.
sjwong - 215 hp, 218 ft/lb trq, 0-60 in 6.8 sec. All but the base does not come with LSD. I think it looks good too.

check out www.is300.net
I used to hang out there quite a bit. At one point I thought I could afford an IS. Had to settle for an EL and condo payments.
The IS300 is a great car. If I remember correctly the first model year with automatic had some sort of acceleration problem. The ECU had to be taken to the dealer for an upgrade. No recall though.
Other than that and shitty gas mileage they are AWESOME cars. Good base to start building a supra-wannabe with four doors. Good aftermarket support, but way more expensive than civic upgrades.

No problem, some people might want to know where the engine comes from and which other toyota has the same engine. Not all people know that.

As you said, V6, IS300 ain't no V6, it's an I6
ES300 was V6, same with camry V6, I am not going to put that engine code up since you don't really like spec and stuff.
As for reliablity, yes Toyota V6 has a little problem, not a huge problem though, I own one, I know.
As for IS300, my relative owns one, maybe too new for the problem to arise, but so far so good.
IS300 engine isn't the same as most other Lexus

It's not uncommon to see a ton of relatively new cars for sale in Auto Trader and the like, especially from luxury brands like Lexus. A lot of them are leased and now the leases have expired so they're all on the market for sale now.

Haha... we can't understand "their" kind. My friends dad is like our GS400 is getting old, it's almost got 30,000 kms on it. I better trade it in soon. So you see... that's how these cars end up on the market. Or better still... honey, the neighbours got a new SUV... our IS300 is too small, can I have the Infinity SUV now?

Well, Toyota makes nice cars. But I don't find the IS' rear light too appealing. The front however, is nice.
But anyway, to each their own.

V33K- what year is your V6? and KM? I'm just gathering info right now to decide.
By the way, the reports did say V6, not sure if it mentioned I6? Maybe the V6 got problems and not the I6.
All I know is, Toyota makes **** cars starting from 2001+, I have a neighbour that bought his Corolla after my Echo - he has about 10,000Km, his tranny is messing up. The Echo has brake line problems in the snow, because the car was build and designed for Japan, which does not have as much snow.
So, you guys can see why I am worried
Anyways, thanks for the info., I would be appreciated if you guys can keep the info coming still.
