I went to Waterloo, my bro went to Waterloo, my buddy's sister goes to Waterloo, my bro's wife went to Waterloo (for her masters)....dude it's not that hard to get into Waterloo. Other than that, U of Toronto has a good program, as does McMaster. Other than that, all others are equal. I say check out MacLean's mag or online for university rating. I'm in the process for looking for the best law school, so if I come across any good sites I'll let you know.

Career don't matter as long as you enjoy working. Sucks getting up for work knowing you hate yourself for doing it. That's how alcoholics and druggies are made I find alcohol to be more and more comforting, and I didn't even drink before.

I can live with anything related to Computers and Electrical (Technology). That means I can design, build, fix, etc. But I really like using my hands building stuff, doesnt mean basically I don't DISLIKE anything with Computers and Electrical and Cars. Oh except PROGRAMMING, out of those two categories I really really really dont like programming, but I dont suck at it. Hardware = my interest. Help decide?

Bah... since G11 course selection is approaching soon, wouldn't it be wise if I just take courses that Universities require from Computer Engineering which is English, Geometry and Discrete Mathematics, Advance Functions and Introductory Calculus, Chemistry and Physics. If I do pretty good with these courses for Grade 12 than doesn't that mean I can get into any Computer/Electrical related programs since Engineer is at the top of requirements.

if you like building crap go the technologist route, you get to build stuff and some companies will have you design stuff to (saves money on engineers) as for how far you can go up the ladder in canada both can go just about the same distance... I have a technologist diploma and hey I can even work in the engineering department here at the company I work for. as for up the ladder if the positions open up I can get to director at least (6 figure salary) ohhh and I'm here, I have a supervisor one step above me, a manager 2 steps above me, and the director is 3 steps above me... pay is great in this company once I get at least to the supervisor roll.

your interested in hardware and you want to work with your hands then go with electronics Technologist .... even if you decide after RCC that engineering is more your style, then go to a bridge program at Memorial or Lakehead.

as a side note if you like electronics and cars ... get hired by GM as a technologist to help design their Motorized army vechicles, I have 2 friends there they have tons of fun just thinking cool **** up...

just more of my 2 cents

as for the course selection best bet is go for the courses needed to get to university... then your garenteed to have the courses for RCC if you decide on that route

side note 200 post

Hey AzimuthX,
I'm about to graduate from Software Eng at MAC (McMaster). If you come here, it's outside T.O. but still close. Great internship program - and they teach you how to get a job.

As far as hands on, that depends more on the jobs you apply for rather than where you go to school.

Eng or tech - Engineering is TOUGH (at least at MAC) - be damn sure it's what you want to do and be damn sure you can stomach the math. math... math... ;-) you get the idea

If you hate school - do tech - you'll still get a sweet job and can still progress your career, which has way more to do with how you get along with your manager than what piece of paper you have

If you are positive you can handle 4 years of MATH then go to Uni. It's do-able, but make sure it's really what you want to do.

Oh, and consider either Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering (right now I think Western and MAC are the two accredited for this in Ontario), or Eng Phys (MAC)/ Eng Sci (U of T)

But consider this: MAC is "relaxing" it's first year program as far as difficulty because the admission average is inflated from the double cohort. So you'll be able to get higher marks here than at U of T.

One sentence answer: tech = less time in school, stay in school for as long as you can tolerate it.

later

BladeX is one idiot.

Thanks for your input snow_dragon_si.

I will be selecting my G11 and 12 courses to prepare me for Engineering in University. Hopefully I do well (well maybe good habbits = good marks) and can get to U of Waterloo. I can always get an Engineering Degree than get Technologist + Technician Diploma at RCC for 18 months. <Input on that?

Well I asked my mom last night, seems that shes willing to borrow a lot of $ for my education, so I got OSAP and parents! That means I can live on campus residence.

What does acredited mean? I have no idea which University is good for Computer or Electrical Engineerig, but thats 2 years to worry since now I am not confused anymore about my courses and career.

acredited means you won't have to take more tests to become a member of a professional ogranization . RCC is also accredited..

as for doing the engineering then the technologist you'd be looking at 4 years for the engineer then 1.5 years for the technologist so 5.5 years all together

if you do the technologist then the engineering at say lakehead your looking at 1.5 years for the techno and 2 years for the engineering end result 3.5 years ... you save 2 years ....

now what does saving 2 years mean? it means 2 extra years of making money. which will be like a couple hundred thousand at the time you retire (I'd have to show the calculations in person....
to complex for here)
