Overseas importing only allows 15 years or older cars into Canada , so that shiny R34 you're hoping for or whatever else will have to wait a few years lol. Right now the newest car you could get from Japan is 1989.

I've seen newer than 89 cars imported from japan...you just have to meet the safety requirements with the newer cars whereas the older cars 89 and such you just bring em over, hop in and drive your JDM death trap

this is why its not too popular...you're gonna have to spend another 5grand + to safety the car to canadian standards which brings the price up way too high for most people to see it as being worth it...not to mention in some cases there isnt much you can do to make it meet the requirements without extensive modifications (side impact door beams and stuff like that).

Get yourself a dealer plate and not have to worry about all that stuff!

its a myth, the only cars you can do that with are specific cars allowed by the government, none of the cars on the list are from japan only from the US. The only way you can bring one is disasemble it in japan ship it here, reassemble it here, and register it as a kit car, which will cost you more than 5 grand, there was a guy at import fest (president of the subie club i beleive) who did it with a mid 90's STi, its a lot of work and a lot of money

that's correct, I inquired about importing a brand new Russian Uaz, and they nearly laughed at me 15 years or older is a must to import a vehicle.
