you can give a boy a fish for a day...but if you teach him to fish he will eat forever... something like that???...

in other words just learn irc and ull be set...irc isnt going anywhere there is no way for the goverment or lawyers to shut it down...Kazza will be gone within the year

irc/direct connect are the best sources for downloading...

kazza sucks... it's filled with "spyware" which is software that is loaded in conjunction with the program which allows their servers to track where u go on the web... for how long etc etc... and the best part is once it's loaded it's loaded... even if you are not on kazza there watching ... for those who love kazza download kazza lite it's with out all the spyware... For those that just wanna download music use winmx.. for those who have already downloaded the reg version of kazza download adaware or another anti spyware and clean up your computer... spyware slows down your computer 10% or more...

how many times do I have to say this?

get rid of kazza

dl kazza lite

before loading kazza lite, run ad-aware....norton...AVG.....and any other virus detector you have to make sure you don't have any crap on your comp.

Install kazza lite......load only the items you want/need.

Then for a partial DL player, get Video Lan. It's a player that will play the partial DL of a kazza files......it has to have at least 150kb+ of data before it works. It saves you the headache of DL'ing a FAKE file, be it music or video. I'm on 56k, and Video Lan has saved me the bs of shity files. Yes, I still get the occational fake file or two, but not like it used to be. And when I get a fuqked up file, I don't delete it.....I put it into a unshared file folder....that way when I go to DL the same tile/name, I can compare the file sizes......if they are the same, chances are the file will be a fuqk up as well.......so I look for a different size)

To use Video Lan, just drag and drop the partial file DL to the player and drop it on it. The partial file (if there is enough data) will play.

You DO know that files that are DL'ed from kazza/kazza lite/and others, DON'T always start at the beginning to the end, right?

When you DL from multiply people, you get bits and peices for the different people.....some near the begining....some from the end....some from the middle...ect.... So even the Video Lan Player will sometimes make it look as if you are DL'ing a fake fuqked up file. Just give it a bit of time to get more of the DL.

People that are on cable have it better than us on dail up.......they can get to "see" if the file they are DL'ing is the real deal or not.....in my case, I have to wait a bit longer....oh well.

yes, but it won't play all of them. Video Lan has most, if not ALL the codecs needed....kazza lite does not. It also takes longer to decode the partial DL you have when you use the kazza lite player. Video Lan is much faster. The only glich I find is that you should either pause the DL while you check it, or close down the Video Lan window before it get to the end of the play "line"....if you know what I mean. It sometimes gets stuck, and I have to use the ctrl/alt/delete buttons to close down a nonresponsive video Lan window......but even on thier site, they explain that you should pause the dl before using it...........but the glich only happens sometimes.

My brother's the computer guru, and he's had his comp for over 10 years.......upgraded a few times over the years.......he has yet to get a virus, or have the comp go belly up. If he trusts a program, I believe him.

Here's some of the stuff I use.....

Anti Virus detection....

AVG ( the free version)
Norton ( the latest version)

I always use both when I check a DL (I'm paranoid. )

Kazza Lite

Video Lan player for partial DL's

POW! (pop up killer)

KILL DOCS (removes all traces of files/document you have opened with a double clik......it sits in my tool bar) It's waaaaay easier than erasing them the other way. Takes only a couple of seconds.

Zone Alarm (free version)

Ad-aware 6

PowerDVD (great to use to check music files.....it gives you the ability to fast search with audio to make sure the file you just got is ok and has no glitches....no need to listen to the whole song at normal speed....takes about a minute in fast audio search mode)

Oh, and I also have some plugin's that give me some extra covenience features for kazza lite. (ie.....sig to dat auto DL's.....auto search/re-search time setting, and a whole buch of other cool stuf.)

And a shreader for the trash. (I won't go into detail about it)

What do you guys use?

holy crap pulovr.. u could save yourself a lot of trouble and download off of irc or direct connect and never even utter the word kazza... and u'd probably boost ur system resources 25% by removing 1/2 that crap u have on as a result of using such a shotty program

irc doese not supprt resume. I'm on dail up and if I have to log off, I'd have to go to the bottom of the line. If that happens, i would have to wait my turn before i was able to connect to another p2p. Also, if I log of, the file I was DL'ing gets lost.....I either have all of it, or nothing at all. If I had cable, I would have a few choices......but since i don't, I use kazza lite.

I know about e-donkey and e-mule, but thay are no good for dail up users.

Oh, by the way, the pluggin's I have for the lite version allows me to direct connect to a p2p......AND allows me to resume from where i left off, if I log off and then come back.

and about the system resources.......they hardly ever go above 15%......unless i'm doing video editing, then it starts to get up there.

irc has resume support... Maybe you tried a crappy script ...excursion is the best script for irc...you would be amazed what it is capable of...

But yah since you are on dial up irc probably isnt the best thing for you since 95% of people on irc that share files are on cable minimun... People get crabby when 56krs dl off them...usually end up getting banned or something for being to slow... If you do get cable someday, its worth getting to know a good irc script like excursion, and find a good channle to serve in (then reap the benifits)... I get my movies/ music at over 400kbs on average... I get full dvd rips in under 2 hrs, full albums in 4-5 mins...

go to hell.

j/k

yeah, I know the speeds. But I usually leave the connection on over night, and PRESTO, it "feels" like cable.

I don't dl alot of stuff, but if I did, I would be looking for a cable conection in a second......for now, it's not that bad. I'm usually connected at 46.6k or 48k with the 56k modem I have.....which is actually very good.
