Just bought an ASUS the other day - dual core processor, blu-ray, HD screen, 250gb, 3 gig RAM, just over a grand - running the Santa Rose processor. Look on the ASUS website - really nice products, but they come loaded with Vista - it's not that bad, though I run XP on my desktop still.

Dont listen to any of these ppl that say HP is crap. I took a class in highschool strictly learning about laptops. HP is by far, the best.

What high school has a class "strictly learning about laptops"??

If HP laptops are made like any of their other products (including desktops, not sure how they mess that up) they are garbage...

we use Lenovo at work

although the quality has gone down since the IBM days, the laptops are still pretty solid and we have thousands of them.

I have an HP desktop and my wife's laptop have both been HP. No problems with either and they are always on sale at FS.

Thanks for the tips guys. My neighbour works at FS and will hopefully hook me up with a slightly better deal.

Duribility differs from model to model, and as for long lasting, do you mean battery life? Or the actual hardware? If it's the hardware, then again, it all depends on the model. The "better processor" really has nothing to do with HP since they don't make them. And with the viruses, that is all dependent on your OS and your handy little virus catch/kill proggy.

The only thing HP has in a laptop that you can call their own would be the body/casing, and the little decal the slap on it. All laptops are like this. I'm not knocking HP, it's just that HP cannot be given any credit for the above comment.
