Latest fight against street racing
Apparently the transport minister is supporting a new set of laws designed to curb street racing.
Anyone caught (suspected of) street racing will have their car impounded for 48 hours and also have their license suspended for the same duration.
Anyone with enhancers such as NOS etc....will be charged, as they plan to ban them from street use period.
And I don't get this one.....tint will be targeted. Some bullshit about the driver being able to make eye contact with the pedestrians....not sure how light the windows have to be....or if they will allow tint at all on the driver/passenger door.
Anyone else hear of this? I'll try to find the article.

Tint's no big deal... I just wear a pair of those glasses with the nose and eyebrows, or the bulging eyes ones. Better yet, I just pick my nose or make faces at people that look over at me while I'm waiting for a light to change. I couldn't give a rat's *** if someone can see me... they may just realize that they're not quite as good looking as me. lol

from all these tint issues, i can see a permit being pursued in the distant future
a permit allowing tint upto a set percentage, and you would have to buy such permits at costs ranging from 500-1000 per year.
just looking for more money, i cant really see why it would be a safety issue if ppl from the outside can clearly see your outline at the least!

Crack down on street racing
December 12, 2002 - 6:51 pm
By: 680 News Staff & Mike McQueen
The province is cracking down on the fast and furious. Transport Minister Norm Sterling proposed changes that would allow police to immediately seize a car and suspend a driver's license for 48 hours.
The bill also prohibits the use of equipment and substances such as nitrous oxide that boost an engine's performance and limits how dark the windshield and front side windows can be tinted.
The legislation also targets motorists who drive too slowly in the left lane, and makes booster seats mandatory for smaller children

In other words.... bullsh*t.
What exactly is meant by ...
"prohibits the use of equipment and substances such as nitrous oxide that boost an engine's performance"
A lot can be left to a person to interpret what equipment would be classified as "illegal"

As for the nos......that's crap.
What about deisels that use propane to boost the power? (just like Nos)
It states that a vehicle has to have a PLACARD on the outside, stating the kind of dangeruos goods the vehicle has on board.
Privately owned vehicles don't need them.
What are they going to do about propane taxies then?
And you wonder where our tax dollars are going?
So I guess they are going to crack down on car dealerships that sell OEM replacement parts that increase power too?
I'd like to see them try to stop those .
It's not illeagal to drive a car with that has 200+ Hp........it's what you do with it that can be illeagal. When are they going to get it through there heads! :fustrated
As long as the car passes all the safeties/emisions..ect....then what's the point?
It's the guy behind the wheel that's the problem, NOT THE CAR!

But how can Ministry Of Transport solve STREET RACING when TORONTO has NO TRACK???
Choose- Pay $40 or loose your licence....which one would you do?
I have a brochure on street racing. What they said about NOS is BS.
"Nitrous Oxide adds up to 400hp and can accelerate a vehice to 200km in seconds"
Who the **** wrote this in PACER brochures? Durham cops?
Transport Minister Norm and the PACER program is stupid.

They'll never stop streat racing! Not that I like street racing i think only moroon's street race and put other people's live's in danger. BUT I don't think they'll stop it, because ever since man put a saddle on his first horse he prob. raced his neighbour to see who's horse is better. Just like the young cop's where street racing not that long ago.
The thing I hate is being harrassed because of the type of car I drive! Just because it's a Honda and I take very good care of it does not make me a racer!
I still think they should take part of the old airport at just north of yorkdale (forgot name) and put a strip on it for street legal car's. then increase the fines to something completely crazy for anyone caught street racing! Since there is a track in the GTA there should be no need for street racing!

I don't support street racing, but when you give powers to people who already have a slanted view towards a certain group of cars, your stance has given them the power to royally screw up things if they 'think' you were.
