That's how my friend taught me to drive...
1st Time: In and out of 1st gear in Mac's parking lot
2nd Time: Drove back to Mac from Stoney Creek
3rd Time: Test Drove a Mazda
4th Time: Test drove my Civic..
When I test drove the Mazda I was with the salesman and both my parents; talk about pressure!
It doesn't take long to get "ok" with a manual. To really master the clutch, takes quite a bit longer IMO.

One of my first jobs when I was younger was at a Ziebart. THey asked me if I could drive a stick when I applied and of course I said yes. Let's just say I learned driving brand new cars from the locals dealers who had their cars tinted and undercoated there.

once you know how to get out of first gear...you're done..... hill or no hill... you time it the same... sometimes i would punch the gas a lil before i let go of the clutch, once i feel the car moving, i'll gas the car to have it go... that whole process is probably a split second... going into 2nd, 3rd, blah blah... just depress the clutch fully before you shift and shift gently and slowly... take it easy... no need to rush...

My friend taught himself to drive stick by theory.

best way to practice is finding a small uphill then go into first gear and keep practicing moving up then letting it roll back to where you started then try going back up again...do this back and forth without using the brake...just use clutch, gas, and momentum...if you learn first gear...the rest is butter babyyy

hahahahhha
the best way to learn stick is get someone patient to go with you. I started like most people by learning from my dad, it took about 15 minutes to get the feel for it. Once you get that its the same thing over and over and over again.
Then go out by yourself late at night to experience some hills and different driving situations. After that, you're pro...well..almost!
