Legal Places to Dispose of Oil

Other than the dump.

I heard you can at CT, if you leave the jug out in front of the door, but my dad doens't like that idea. Any other places that take your used motor oil?

I asked my pop where he dropped off our oil after we changed it, turns out his work collects oil. But he said CT should take it as well.

err. the CT right by my house takes it free of charge. never heard of charging people??? they do it in bulk everyday. all sorts of fluid. oil, tranny, brake etc... i first went in with a bottle and asked the dude. he's like go around back. i walked outside and near there big dumpster was a row of different oils.. like 30 or 40 jugs.. so i just put mine there.

yeah why would they charge? they'll refine it and sell it again, making them a profit.... charging would be really stupid..... ?

the best way to dispose of oil, is to put the container in front of a neighbours door, ring the bell and get your fanny out of there...........

At the shop, we have a large canister tank we keep on the side to dispose of old used oil that we have changed. When it gets full, we have a tanker come by and pump out the used oil and they dispose of it for us. Your mechanic should be able to take the used oil off your hands for free. We don't get charged for disposing our oil. As a matter of fact, the Ministry of Environment (M.E) who is also in charge of the emissions test program, subsidizes the process of used oil collection and refining. Any auto shop of any kind should take your oil free of charge, being that the M.E. is paying for it anyways.

The City of Toronto used to take oil and other items at their hazardous materials stations. Back when I used to change the oil on my car, I used to take the oil to the hazardous materials station at McNicoll and Victoria Park in Scarborough, this was many years ago though, so I'm not sure if they still do it.
