Now that I got your attention, what is the legal proof for liquor in Canada? I'm almost like 100% sure its 40%. But I need some proof to back it up...

I dont know if there is any "legal" limit to what proof but anything above 151 is retarded anyways...u can buy 151 rum at the lcbo...a bottle lasts a month with weekend drinking
there is also wray and nephew overproof rum which is 63% really tasty stuff too...make a wicked rum punch with it

it is not 40%, you can buy overproof rum, as mentioned, bacardi 151, and arak which is 50% all at the lcbo.
the canadian gov't kind of sucks, i believe that is why they tended to not stock anything over 40%, but as our society declines into an immoral community of lowlives, the demand for harder liquor to get drunk harder and faster increases, and thus, we have it on sale for us.
