livestrong bracelet poll question
#21
I bought a cancer bracelet but not the yellow Livestrong one, I bought the one for breast cancer, I had an Aunt die from it and I support anything that has to do with Breast Cancer as long as I know the proceeds are going to the charity. That's why I bought it off the cancer society website, not a store. Mine's pink and I wear it all the time. I do agree that it did start a trend, but if you ask a few of the people who wear them, they do have valid reasons for wearing them. If you look around there are a lot of people being diagnossed with cancer and other diseases. I think they need to make more of these bracelets for other diseases. The bigger ones. I'm looking for one right now for the childrens network, my future niece suffers from an illness and they need to find a cure for it I think MS is another one that we need to start focussing on, I always buy the daffoldiles (sp?) when they sell them.

Now I finally know what those bracelets are about! With the internet being my only source of media, I tend to miss out on the meaning of some trends. Not to say that donating to disease research is bad, I fully support that.

I agree with all of you that its just the latest trend, and yes, its gone way too far.....however I will be wearing my livestrong bracelet long after the trend is over/or until it breaks off... because i support the efforts of finding a cure for cancer.
when you know people personally who've died from cancer, or seen what cancer survivors go through, I have nothing but the utmost respect and admiration for them, and if wearing this yellow bracelet is the least i can do to show them I care about helping them, then i will.

hummm.... I never knew that the livestrong bracelet was hyped up by oprah....
Not the reason why I have one.....
I thought that the whole idea of each of these bracelets was to support the cause not oprah...... not knowing your gf, I can't actualy answer your question....

well lets see. The whole bracelet concept was a pretty good idea at first. Pay $1, get a bracelet..apparently that whole dollar went to cancer research (but im not getting into that). Then oprah promotes it, good for her.. Then (somehow) it turns into some trend, not to show you actually care about the cause, but that you fit into the latest hype...alright whatever, people are donating but missing the point, (most younger generation) just had their eye on the prize. Kind of like the toy in the cereal box, who cares about the food right? Why i hate these things is because as soon as the trend started ******** started charging people $5 and so on for these things, pocketing the money and basically stealing from charity.
If you're a living person who breathes and drinks water we all know someone who has/had/died from cancer...i think the real question is would you have paid $1 if there was no wristband involved? I know a lot of people that do donate regularly, but a lot that wouldnt without that sweet sweet yellow rubber.
so yes, if your wristband was promoted first, your girlfriend would hate the livestrong ones...she already said she doesnt like the saying and colour...point proven

i'll admit, at first i didnt know wtf it was about, nor did i care. i just wanted it because everyone else had it, lol. When i learned that it was in support of cancer research it, it was even more reason for me to get it. When i got mine i didnt know anything about oprah or any of that. i personally dont like oprah, but this band isnt to support her, why the hell not

My opinion is that Lance Armstrong Livestrong braclets would still have the greatest impact, not because of oprah, but showing he is top competing athelete and has beat cancer, and has shown it shouldnt slow you down, just want you to work hard to achieve something..
