LOTS of animal pics. LOTS!
im currently thinking of building and medium sized habitat for an animal. i dunno what animal to get tough. went to the pets store at sherway, and yorkdale to check out what they got, and yorkdale had alot more options. took some pics too. the habitat i wana build would lookin kinda like this.
it would be realativly easy enought to build, i also work in the lumber yard at rona, so i can borrow some materials for the structure.

In all seriousness, if you can make one of those habitat things for a lizard, then go for it! I think that it would look really cool!! Huge fish tanks with brightly coloured tropical fish are so 90s.

make sure the habitat you build for it is not only ideal in terms of humidity and layout, but also that it is large enough.
You can put a reptile in smaller living conditions then it would 'need', it just won't grow as large and won't live as long.
An iguana for example, needs a room to itself... if you care about it being comfortable at least.
I went to get an iguana and came home with a mutt beagle.
I really like royal pythons, which grow to about 6 feet... but snakes can go on hunger strikes if they are stressed... which can happen pretty easily.. and you would then have to force feed it dead baby mice.
I've had a massive tarantula... a small snake.. among other things..... lizard I haven't done yet.
If it's a pet you want to handle.. research how easy/hard it is to get used to human contact... if you just want something that looks cool... go for whatever... I think chameoleons can be nervous... so if it's in a place with lots of noise (IE: living room with a sound system.. or bedroom with lots of music) you may want to get something else.
Look into what they eat....
Look into what sort of smell will be associated with it.

most of the things u stated i have taken into effect, and will take the appropiate measures to ensure comfort, and ensuring it will live long.. i have done much research on the subject and will continue to do so.
u make a good point with the music. i was gona put it in my room. but i also have a system hooked up to my comp. but i was gona rearrange my room anyways to make some room for the habitat, and put it in the best spot.
dont worry when i do something i go all out.

chameleon is a good choice(mine is below). my advise... get a boy. The females sometime have problems laying eggs and can cause premature death... my friend Tara in on her third female and the first two both died because of problems passing 70+ eggs... the only thing that smell are the crickets you have to feed them... I get 100 3/4 sive(6.90$) at a time and that lasts 1-2 weeks... and if you get full sized crickets they chirp like a mother... if you have any q's let me know i have had chameleons for 5+ years now and i will try to help you... here is my guy. Hoegaarden, 2yrs, 14" long.
