Didn't really study it but was taught a few things by my best friend in Tae Kwan Do. This was back in highschool. He's a black belt and won some competitions in the WTF (full contact) league. I might be able to hold my own still. But I'm an old fart so....

Did anyone see the TLC top ten most dangerous martial arts?

Oh man there was one around number 5 that was created by some facked up southerner...that is based on several arts and I couldn't believe the moves they were practicing with.

As an example they would all take turns kicking each other in the nuts and punching each other in the throat.....ouch!

In fact one guy had four people strike him on all sides of the neck at the same time....full force. They said if he was not prepared, it would break his neck. WTF is the point of that?

Very interesting episode all the same.

I took a blend of 4 major different styles at a place called Dynamic Martial Arts for about 3 months and I LOVED IT! But then I ran out of money..

If I had spare money, I'd go back in a second.

martial arts

Judo is a solid basis for fighting, gives you balance. Follow that up with a decent stand up game and a few solid submission skills and you'll do well in any NHB competition.

It was hella fun though, I would recommend Thai boxing for sure to anyone

Muay Thai is REALLY fun to watch on TV. If I had money and wasn't going into Engineering, then I'd give it a try for sure!

The only thing I hate is the fact that all is Tae Boe stuff has come out so if you try and impress a girl by saying "Yeah, you know.. I took Thai Boxing for two years now" she'll be like "What a coincedence, I took Tae Boe classes as well" and you feel like a wimp.. That's just a thought that came to mind - anyone ever experience something like that?

Actually, Tae Bo was dreamed up by Mr. Billy Blanks, based on his martial arts experience, and boxing. It is not a defence learning art, it is only for exercise, like 'sweating to the oldies' only more intense.
I did Tae Bo to lose weight after having Liam, it is a difficult workout, but that is all it is for.

are there places in Toronto that teach Jeet Kun Do? I know that is Jeet Kun Do stems from the teachings of Wing Chun, but do people learn have to learn Wing Chun before Jeet Kun Do?

As for Tae Bo, yup Billy Blanks created it, but it's so annoying that people misunderstand what Tae Bo is because when it's pronounced it sounds exactly the same! It's annoying, but no doubt it's a very good aerobic exercise.

I have to ask why you want to take jeek kun do or kung fu or any of these similar styles? In almost every NHB competition they've been destroyed early on. Their basic theories are great for the spiritual stuff but if you want to win a fight why not choose something that's a proven winner? Ie: thai, grappling/ submission.
