Jeet Kun Do is not really a style, but is. Confused? It is what Bruce Lee taught....it is more like.......custom style.........
Each person that learns it basicaly adjusts it to their own style of fighting/defence. You have the basics, then you adapt them to the individual.

Every style has limitations.....Jeet Kun Do teaches you to think beyond this....no limitation as limitation.
This is simular to the stuff I was taught when talking my security courses.

Some of the moves should look familiar to you TheRealBenzo.
That is why it is so useful when engaging another opponent that has a different stye of fighting than you do.
This is what the Navy seals and law enforments around the world are teaching.

I use the art of GUNS...
Make all the cool noises you want...
Nobody can outrun bullets...
Seriously Muay Thai is the way to go...
Muay Thai fighters reign supreme as the best standup fighters in the world. Fighters from Asia, America, and Europe have all tried to win in Thailand, most of them knocked out very quickly, the smarter ones leaving with a profound respect for the Thai's and their art.
Now, Muay Thai is the number one choice with professional full contact fighters for standup skills, Brazilian Jiu Jistu the first choice for groundfighting. It differs from the newer, commercial Kick Boxing styles taught in it's use of shin kicks, knees, elbows, full power pad striking, and grappling.
Both the Chinese Martial Arts and Muay Thai have sophisticated systems for generating "Chi" or central nervous system electricity in the body and both use this power for martial application. Although the methodologies are somewhat different, training both systems has a synergistic effect on one's practice.

I study Gracie Brazilian Ju-Jit Ju.. and I've competed in many mixed martial arts competitions, including Valde Tudo, Ultimate Fighting Championship and Pancrase. I train with Carlson Gracie himself and have been doing so for 18 years.

For actual fighting, you should take...
Wrestling (real stuff, not that WWE crap)
Ju Jit Ju (Brazilian, perferablely)
Muay Thai Kickboxing
Boxing is good too, but you must incorporate some sort of grappling.
If you are short 'n stocky, wrestling + boxing is great. You will be able to take people down on the ground quickly and efficiently (even someone much bigger than you) and throw down some heavy punches.
If you are tall 'n skinny, Ju Jit Ju plus Muay Thai is great. Your long and skinny limbs will allow you to grapple with ease and choke your opponent out. Also, the kickboxing will allow you to dish out some hard kicks.
Learning one martial art is great for the sport aspect, but for proper self-defense, you really need to know more than one martial arts. But if you can only afford to learn just one, then grappling (ju jit ju or wrestling) is better to go with, since 90% of fights always end up on the ground.
