Holy ****, RUST shouldn't be an option on a brand new car.
I've seen cars around 10 years old that are still rust free and these ones are coming from the factory with rust. What the hell is Mazda doing?!!?

GUYS RELAX !
Any component of a car that comes into contact with the atmosphere's moisture , after leaving the factory/plant, will have/develope corrosian on the part ! No matter what !
Look at the brake rotors, and under the cars suspension componenets...it is impossible to prevent ! As soon as it hits moisture.....
It doesnt mean that it is rusting.
----> Now if the part is painted and it shows rust spots, it is a different story, because there is rust coming up from under the paint...(NOT GOOD !!!)

ya, it seems the paint didn't stick or wasn't applied at all to that area, and the welds are starting to rust. it's pretty ugly too!!
Ford owns 40% of Mazda, so not a controlling share, but a large chunk. Mazda Protege and Ford Escort GT were mechanically the same cars, as were MX6 and Probe GT. The Tribute and the Escape are also the same platform. Protege is still Japanese, and so it Miata. Dunno about the 6

I believe that the Mazda 6 shares many components with some car that Ford sells in Europe (don't know which one). It was a joint product in an effort to cut production costs.
