Medical Testing - Allied Research International (ARI)
Allied Research International
Sorry, I realize that this has nothing really to do with club events, but I thought it might apply to a lot of people who live in Hamilton and the GTA.
I recently heard an advertisement on the radio for medical testing of grass allergy medication. They boasted rewards of $855 to $1215. I really got to thinking about the financial aspect of the study, and became increasingly interested.
I decided to call the toll free number I heard on the radio and see what it was about. I admit, I was easily convinced by the girl on the line, to sign myself up.
What I had agreed to was to take an injection of the allergy medication over 2 months, and that was all there was to it, besides a small medical examination. I was promised the $1215 for my admission to let them use me as a specimen.
Now, I am a young guy, and I am quite healthy. Maybe I take this for granted. I had time to think about the whole idea I am very emberassed to admit I almost allowed myself to do this.
1. There must be a good reason why they are offering so much money. Obviously the stakes involved must be to a high enough degree for them to be paying so much.
2. I was listening to a Hamilton station (Y108). Perhaps there is a reason why the pharmacetical company is targeting people from a less afluent city. I am not putting the city I live in down, but it is generally true.
3. Why would I gamble my good health for such a small benifit. Essentially, I don't know the affects of this untested medication.
My message is this, don't be taken in by this radio ad if you hear it. The company that conducts these studies is called Allied Research International (ARI)
BUT GUYS and GIRLS! Do yourself as favour and protect yourself against this. Your health is your best insurance! Don't submit your bodies for medical testing. It's not worth it. Yes, it's kind of humorous saying it. Can you really put a price on your health?

medical tests in my opinion should be done on prisoners, and the money they would pay you should instead go into the prison budget to reduce the tax burden.
even meds that are tested and approved by the FDA and whatever ministry we have in Canada.... they still sometimes cause reactions that can leave you with problems. I know two ppl who were vaccinated before a trip overseas, and both of them had a reaction to the vaccine and are now lactose intolerent.

hahah man, I just called that place !!!! I saw the add in the "24" newspaper the other day, but this was for a different study with compensation of 2500 bucks, they wanted you to take this drug to help people that suffer from strokes and epylepsy, I litterally laughed out loud on the phone. On top of this, they take a total of 17 blood samples in that 2 months. I found this completly rediculous and how people go through with this is sad, you must really be in desperate times in order to participate in such studies, and the fact that this company strives for people like that is cruel. They know the product works just fine, thats what it was designed and produced for, what they dont know is the side effects, thats what they pay you for. They want you to have stomach pains, liver problems, blood cell count problems etc etc etc...and these constant blood tests will show them how the drug is ****en you up. But dont forget you signed a waver, they will tell you JACK ISHT on what this stuff is doing to you, hell if it even kills you, they are covered.
someone go postal and burn the place down

well, i wouldnt be so worried about allergy medication...they're all basically the same. did they take blood samples? cuz if they did, then that means that they were prolly only determining the pharmacokinetics of the drug.
i'm pretty desparate for $$...usually grad students are, which is why ppl like us are most likely to become subjects for such studies...its so sad and pathetic.
anyway, being the desparate student that i am, i participated in a study once that was being conducted by a friend. but he was only measuring the pharmacokinetics of a vitamin pill...so no biggy...only a vitamin pill, which is prolly y i only got paid $100/day, but they took like 8 blood samples/day. had to have an in-dwelling catheter which isnt much fun, but hey i got $400 out of it and i didnt loose any time off work cuz we both did our research in the same building. and i'd do it again cuz i'm poorer than ever.

I participated in a drug study. It was for a sleeping pill that was alreasy out on the market. That stuff was some good drugs. They paid me $1000 and payed for gas from Ham dot to Weston and steeles. They had their own chef and playstation and satellite.
Had to stay there two consecutive weekends, fri nite to mon morn. took the equvilent of 1 1/2 pints of blood in total. Half the group got a placebo. I did it with a buddy so I wasn't in a strange place sleeping with 40 strange guys.
Don't know if I would do it again. But easy buxx

IMO, there is nothing wrong with it if you want to do it. Yes, there are risks, but that is why they are paying you so much money. Every single drug (errr, legal ones ) that you have ever taken has gone through this process. Next time you take any type of medication, remember that many people went through the tests to ensure that the drugs are safe so that nothing happens to you.
