I found this mentioned on another site and I thought it might be interesting to read some of your opinions.

A man convicted in the death of a Florida Highway trooper during a chase down Interstate 4 received a sentence of 30 years in prison Friday, according to Local 6 News.
Prosecutors said Donald Williams, 39 was racing a Porsche car down I-4 about a year ago when trooper Daryl Haywood noticed the cars speeding.
While Haywood was trying to stop Williams, he blew a tire, lost control of his cruiser and was killed in a crash.
During the trial this week, Williams said he never saw Haywood behind his motorcycle, so could not be held responsible for the crash.
Friday, Williams offered condolences to the Haywood family, but never acknowledged speeding his motorcycle down I-4, Local 6 reporter Mike DeForest said.
Just before the judge sentenced Williams, Haywood's wife requested a severe punishment.
"You have left numerous victims in your wake," Haywood's wife Linda said. "You have taken away my life partner. The void that exists is an extremely painful one. Our hearts are broken and nothing will mend them."
Williams said he hopes Haywood's family will not be mad at him and can put the incident behind them.
Thoughts? 30 year's may be a little harsh, but he was still indirectly responsible for the Cop's death.

"you have left numerous victims in your wake" ummm lady, it was 1.
Yes he was indirectly responsible both civily (lawsuit for lost future earnings could be launched if the guys has money) and criminally by the way for probably manslaughter, but so was the porsche driver...30 is brutal and will be appealed. he will likely only get 15 on appeal which is still overkill. In Canada he'd get 3-5 tops if anything.
the officer lost his life attempting to perform his duties required of him by the State, had the motorcycle and porsche not been racing, the officer would have never been involved in the accident, so they are liable. but 30 years, thats ridiculous, even by US Law standards.
Sad though, a cop lost his life and the motorcyclist is loosing a large portion of his.

id understand if he caused a serious incident, but a Police Cruiser must be maintained to its full potential!
why drive a car if the Brakes dont work?? or the tires havent been changed!
BY LAW, the Police shouldnt even bother with a chase... it aint worth it... they know better not to pursue... but the offer did wat he thought was right... and now his family is paying the price b/c of a Cruiser not maintained!
i think we are all guilty of pulling up races... except we cant stand up to a porchse! well some of you can!

that's terrible.. terrible call
it's so easy to be liable in the states... thank goodness for the canadian legal system...
it is a sad story, but he shouldn't get 30 years... there's murderers that get off on manlsaugher for less thatn that...
priorities ppl... who's worse to society this guy who if he ****s up again will be scraped off the road or someone who's gonna stab his next g/f to death...??

man thats ridiculous, it wasnt his fault the police cruiser didnt have proper tires to hold up to a high speed chase. Did anyone even consider that the cruiser went over the speed rating for the tire?
He should be charged, but for engaging in a high speed chase..and 30 years is above and beyond a stupid sentence.

^ How do you guys know the cruiser was in bad shape tire wise? You don't. No one can control when a tire blows, regardless of the condition of he car. There could've been something in the road that got stuck in the tire and during the chase, or before the chase and the excess pressure on that puncture could have caused it to blow. Who ****in knows...

Someone died because of a street racing incident. Whether it was a cop giving chase, some old lady walking her dog, or just another car that got in the way, someone still needs to be held accountable.
30 year's is pretty harsh, but it was probably because the guy was a cop.

if it was some joe schmoe that blew a tire and crashed behind these people trying to keep up, noone would be charged. and this guy shouldnt be charged at all, 30 years for defective tires/ bad tires, or road debris. call it what u want, hell, the cop could have been responding to a call, speeding, noone around, tire blows, he dies, and then his family charges the people that he was responding to because if it wasnt for them, he woulda lived another day.
its pure bull****. the motorcyclist should be walking a free man right now IMO

you guys are missing the point, its not that the tire was defective, its like Dumbass si stated, it was street racing and the cop lost his life trying to stop the street racing which could have easily involved the life of an innocent person walking or driving.
you do something so stupid like street racing, better be prepared to go to jail for a long, long time....i like it. don't want to go to jail, don't street race.
but 30 years is stiff.
tires do blow out, what happens if the porsche's tire blew out, it spun and killed someone else? no-one would mention the tire defect then, they would be riding the porsche drivers *** about street racing!

The police are instructed not to give chase if its going to put there life or other innocent lives at risk, this cop chose to and suffered the consequences of his actions. With that said yes I do still feel that it is partly the motorcyclists and porsche drivers faults but it was the officers choice to give chase when he could have easily gotten on the CB and alerted police up the road, called for air support, etc. It seems that in America there is nothing more important to Police then high speed chases these days.

One of the most ridiculous things ive ever heard, whoever gave that sentence should be ashamed of themselves, 30 years for nothing, a huge injustice. Its like getting into an accident because of bad weather and putting the weatherman in jail for 30 years because he forecasted incorrectly

Similare example, if your buddys driving behind you, your both speeding a bit, and he losses control of his car cause the tire blew, and wrecks his car, should you have to go to jail for it??
