Mountain bikes...
Do anyone here know something about mountain bikes? i'm thinking of getting one... sportchek has one on sale.. and CT also got something as well.. (not on sale though..) my big question is... does the brand really matter that much? (quality wise) since i'm told that the supercycle suck ***.. but one has a front disc brake on it with an aluminum frame... etc... and the one on sale at sportchek have just regular brakes... as well as frame...

so is it better to go with sportchek lower end models or CT "higher" end models?

like everything in life you get what you pay for...
that said i did have a ccm bike a few seasons back and by the end of that summer i had cracked the frame twice... right where the handle bars connect to the frame... and near the end of the summer i'm not sure what happened but i going across a field or something and basically the rear derailer just gave out and the chain was in a knot when i got up from the spil...
a few months ago i picked a super nice trek bike off a member on here... got it for way less then its retail value....
but i would suggest going to a real bike shop... and just seeing what they can do for you... the best companies to go for a canadian ones (like norco) cause there products are cheaper...

mid winter is the best time to buy cause they have lots of last years models hanging around.... but you probably can find something for $300... i think i bought a norco bush pilot a few years ago $400... solid bike... and i know it wasn't the most expensive model either

i got the norco ryde and its the best bike iv ever had. Norco is an amazing compony for bikes. BTW if you are going to go to a bike shop no doubt you will be able to talk the owner to lower the price for you. i got my Ryde for $800 when retail is cloe to $1300. small shops are always the way to go. and one more thing, stay away from supercycle. worst bikes ever. i could destroy those bikes in one night if i rode it the way that i can ryde my norco. (ryde hahahah)

when i was younger i was really really into mountain biking, when my area was just developing there were a lot of dirt paths and hills and stuff......make sure ur frame is light weight but still strong.....i've landed hard on my bike enough times......i had a bike i bought from sears made by Jeep really good quality in my opininon nothing wrong with it still got the bike when i was 14, still have it today been over 4 years of running it to the ground and it'z still standing in prestine condition........but then again i treated my bike like my car now......always washed it oiled the chain........cleaned hte brakes etc....hahaha everything that u need to do....i'm thinking of biking a lot this summer again.....instead of driving to friends houses that don't live too far away.
i'd say go with light frame and the widest tires possible. my tires were awefully wide.....and served to my advantage....some mountian bikes have skinny *** tires......and i dunno if that'z good or not.........cause i'm not pro.....but i've been on others bikes before....and i'd stick with my wide ones.....

I used to really be into biking. I had a Diamond Back ($), Rocky Mountain ($$), and finally a Klein ($$$). All of them I got for very cheap from an "aquaintance" who used to "borrow" the bikes from stupid people that didn't lock them up. Anyway, today you can buy a really nice bike for under $1000. Aluminum frame, front shocks, high quality components, etc. If you just want a bike to casually ride around, then the Crappy Tire one would probably be ok (they weigh a ton though). See if you can find a higher quality one used out of the newspaper or the Tri-Ad.

I may be looking for a bike too, what brands should I look for and avoid?
I saw an ad in a flyer (either Sport Chek or Sport Mart, can't remember which) and they were selling a Raleigh bike for an ok price. I used to have a Raleigh bike, but it was heavy as hell. Are their more expensive stuff better??
What about Trek and Specialized?
