Use Nero to burn your DVD's..

Download Virtual dub and use it to join your avi's.

To use virtual dub:
------------------------

1) select file -> open - (targetfile.avi)

2) select video -> direct stream copy

3) select file -> append avi - (targetfile #2.avi)

4) select file -> save avi..

Use nero to recode your avi to Mpeg1 or 2 source.

Dvd clone with AnyDvd is a good program to use. AnyDvd is the decoder and Dvd clone copys the exact Dvd with menus and all even tho the backup cds usually carries less space compared to the real dvds.

Yes virtual dub, that was the progam... Also it can split .avis into 2 part as well if the need arises.
