MP3 player, Apple question

So aside from paying to download movies from iTunes, how do I transfer store bought or rented DVDs onto my iTouch?

I have heard of programs called HandBrake that convert the DVDs into a format that will work, but do they? Any suggestions? Having movies to watch would be a cool addition to the songs I have.

handbrake is easy, reliable...but if ripping a dvd direct to ipod format its gonna take some time to decode, encode etc...better have a fast machine with mucho ram or just do it before bed

handbrake is the choice for most users...though videora ipod converter is another decent choice...I just like how handbrake keeps the chapters of a dvd when it converts it to ipod format so u can skip chapter just like watching the real dvd
