MP3 Quality

Hey Everyone...

Quick Question...when downloading music from Kazaa or WinMX, or whatever you use to get music...What quality of music is the best or closest to CD quality? 128, 192, 256 etc...cause some sound really different then others....

The higher the better! But with the higher bit rate, the bigger the file size.

I think that most people do 128 bit since a lot of people can't hear a difference anyways.

Bitrate does not mean QUALITY

I have heard many 192 + recordings and they sounded like absolute garbage, highs sounded like tin cans and there was so much discolouration in the music

I have heard some 128 and lower recordings sound absolutely mint.

It has more to do with the codec you use, alot of them are inferior out there.

The Fraunhaufer (sp) codec is by far one of the best for SQ (fopa I know cause mp3 does not have great SQ anyways)

192 is standard these days....also u cant only judge a mp3 by what its encoded at..not everything is sourced from a cd..some songs are off the radio, tape, streamed...where it comes from makes the difference..

Your buddy sounds like a WinAR lol

seriously, what kind of drugs is he taking cause I want some

As soon as you compress to mp3 your going to loose some info, so NO WAY it will sound better than CD.

Only excuse he has is his hearing isn't that good

You can't convert a 128 bit mp3 to a 256 bit mp3 and make it sound better.. lol

320 is the highest i can find, any time i rip a cd that's what i rip at, i can tell the difference from a 256 and a 320 on a car stereo once burnt to a cd

cd quality no

mp3 is a compression codec, once you compress your automatically getting rid of bytes to make it smaller.

it may sound good

but on a high quality system you will notice the diff, that and a good set of ears helps

Most of the files I have are between 128 -> 192. I have a few abouve 192, and I have a few around 160........and a few below 128.

I try to get multiply DL's of the same file/song....all at different bit rates, then I listen to them all, and then I only keep the good sounding ones. From those, I record them to a CD-RW, and listen to them on my home system. (it ain't a cheap one either). The ones that still sound good, I keep. The ones that are lacking in SQ, I delet from my HD.

Is it a lot of work doing it this way?

Yes it is, but I would rather have a HD full of GOOD sounding mp's, than crappy ones.

I can't always get a good file/song........there are the occational songs that seem to be the SAME files being shared by everyone. I just wish more people would CHECK and LISTEN to the files they DL, and get rid of the sh1tty ones....then there would be better quaity files/songs left over to DL.

Here's something that bothers me......why do people keep megemix songs for upload? ie....a song from a megemix, that the begining and end are cut off. This still confusses me to this day. I CAN understand having the WHOLE mix, but having one that is cut up, is just a waste of HD space imo.

Get rid of those files people.

If it's NOT the whole song, delet it, or rerecord it.

Amen to that

Sometimes I wonder to myself when I hear others "burned" mix cds and how horrid sounding some of the tracks are.

I wonder how they can enjoy the song when it sounds like absolute garbage.

I wonder the same thing Matt.

Is it that hard to delet a fuqked up song file? Geezz.

You know what? I have to admit I still have a few on my HD, BUT I DON'T PUT THEM IN MY SHARED FOLDER FOR OTHERS THE DL FROM ME!! :fustrated

There, I feel better now.
