How do you know that your kids are like that? How do you know that they arent putting an act in front of you?

And I dont mean that in a disrespectful way I am sure you are a great parent. But the question still remains how do you know??

Todays kids are smarter in every way compared to the generation before them. How do you as a parent (since i aint one) know what is really going on in their heads?

Afterall your not there 24/7 of their lives. And with them growing up school is taking away a big part of the day.

so the question still remains....

I blame it on 50 Cent and rap music.

if i had to throw out a general group to blame, i would blame it moreso on people who blame it on rap music and any entertainer or group of entertainers, rather than accept the fact that people can be morons, and that the majority of people who listen to rap are not gonna throw their guns in the air and go around shooting people.

how many metalheads do you see killing cats and worshipping satan?

a very very small percentage of the population can be removed and you'll see a lot of things change. namely your media fed opinions about society.

turn off the media and think for yourselves.. think about your experiences.

is it just as easy to say young italians criminals are all getting into crime because of the sopranos?

can we blame all occurances of **** sex on pornography

fifty cent is coming out with a book publishing company as well.. it's gonna specialize in "street ficton" at least it'll promote reading. i can't say that reading about people killing eachother while riding dragons was any more or less educational for me.

men like violence. this isn't something that has happened because of rap.

DMX is ony of my favourite rappers by the way.. flesh of my flesh being my fav album of his... any man that opens an album with the line "i got blood on my hands with no remorse, i got blood on my d.ck cause i f.cked a corpse" is A-OK in my books.

listening to that over and over has never made me fantasing about having sex with a corpse.

I know because I observe my kids when they play with their friends and I do get information from other parent's, teachers and friends on their behaviour. There are ways to find out how your kids are interacting with other kids. My kids do not come home happy all the time either, they complain and bitch about other kids, cry about things and voice their opinion. I talk to them everyday as equals and give them respect, and they respect me back. There not a day that goes by that I do not ask what is going on with them, helping them with their homework or sharing my day with them as they do with me.

You ask anybody that has met my kids or talked, interact with them, they will tell you no different. Whenever my kids misbehave, it's always at home and thats how I want it to be. Let me deal with them if they have issues. I have never had to hit my kids as I promised myself I would never do (I got the belt too many times to count)

Anytime they have gone over to their friends or family to stay or visit without us, we get complimented on how well behave they are.

So that is how I know. I hope that I created an environment that my kids feel confortable in, so they can come and talk to me anytime about anything.

Jay, next time we hook up, I will tell you about some conversations my 9 year old and I have had when she was 7. They both amaze me everyday.

In the end, you do your best and hope it carries on.

Exactly. I think the authority kids are looking for is fear. It's fun to talk about how hard one guy is that you know, who's got the tougher crazier friend and ****...we all do it. Problem is more kids want to be that tough guy and have people cross the streets when they seem him walking in their direction. What they should be after is respect. Respect gets you anything but you dont earn it with a weapon and violence; that just gets you more enemies and a shorter life span.

I know both of you wont care until one of your friends gets shot in the face over a stupid argument...not in my backyard right?
Actually I have a friend who has been shot in the face. I've also had friends whos moms and sisters got beat up because of beef. I've also been close to losing my life over stupid ****.

Doesnt change my POV at all. Stop crying. It will deal with itself. They wont shoot you for no reason, and if your scared of the crossfire dont drive through the areas you think are "bad".

Finsihed. You cant say "Well its my city I should be able to go freely where i wish" because no matter what city or town your in there is always a "bad" part where all the colored immigrants live.

So split up canada and throw all the black people (or tamils or asians or indians or latinos or coolies or whoever you think is most dangerous) in one little part of the country, so we can have a nice ethnically divided nation. I'm sure that will work fine, because it has worked SO perfect in the past.

^i admire how you can keep your cool in heated situations that happen and things...its cool to just wait it out...but foreal homie i also know people that start shlt for no reason...you wont always get shot because of beef you know?its all good how you wanna wait it out and maybe it will go away...i dont know how it is in maple or wherever your at...but around my area...theres cats that would walk up to you and jab you with a knife down the hallways of your complex just so their boys know how fuked in the head they are...and there are people that wont think twice to go up to a persons house and just shoot it up because they know there wont be any kind of retaliation from innocent people...there is no single answer to fixing the problem...its all a combination of what you all suggested...a combination of parenting, policing, government, and just waiting to see if it worked....BUT i guarantee you that it will not go away if you just leave it....its a perpetual cyle because the younger kids here(my block) are seeing the older cats with guns and almost see them as a hero of some sort...they see them as heros because they are the ones that are managing to bring money in to the neighbourhood and feed their family...most "beef" that happens in my block are always almost money related...it is always rooted back to it...its just poverty doing what it does best...and i know some kids are probably gonna come back and reply with "yeah i know a guy that did this and a guy that did that"...but foreal homie it doesnt impress me....its a basic equation to why things are happening...its because PEOPLE ARE POOR..PEOPLE WHO ARENT IN THE SAME SITUATION DONT CARE.......its all demographic also...im speaking for my area alone...thats what the police should be doing...trying to find out the root of each areas problem...and on mine its MONEY...shootings happen HERE because of the drug trades...we cant treat it as a "general" gun situation because its not that!...each area has its own reason of why things are happening the way they are...

oh and if your all interested...heres a link to a CBC documentary that you may have missed....
http://jane-finch.com/videos/cbcsmugglaz.htm

..and no its not about RAP affecting our children...people have to read between the lines sometimes...

WHATS NEW? This sort of thing has been happening since the start of the world and will continue until this earth dies.

The only thing we could do is hope good comes out of these bad situations.

And I don't think splitting up people won't EVER make a single difference.

Please forgive me if somone has said this before as I read through about half of what was written but.................... I am from Malton, some say "so what" and some say "too bad" and some people think its a bad place to live. But for all of the people who come from an area where "you" were concidered to be part of "those people" this whole thing of guns and killing is absolutely nothing new. People getting shot, killed, stabbed and all that other crap happens........everyday...........mabee not in the neighbourhood where you come from, but on a given night hanging out you will hear "gunshots" but you wont here about it in the news.

Sh%$ if they put all the people on the news that got shot or were shooting at people, there would be a 24hour station for each of the following places......Malton, Rexdale, Jane n' Finch, All diferent parts of Scarbrough.(and no disrespect if I left you out)

The point of all this is Supperssion of what are looked upon as "lower income" towns/cities and the fact that people have always been getting killed. Its now just showing up on the news cuz they seme to be happening in more public places, instead of just behind the complex.

Ive been to more funerals than I care to admit and known more people my age (27) or close to that, that are no longer with us because they chose to fight the war in the concrete jungle. Not because they were ignorant or racist or because they listen to B.I.G. or 2pac, but because the chose to play that particular hand that was delt to them.

I could go on an on but this is a emotional issue for me, because people I care about are playing those same cards and think they cant get up from the table.

Like most of the people who now live in brampton and maple, i lived in the gutterest of dirtiest of smelliest buildings in toronto, straight from metro housing at jane and sheppard. As long as i've lived there for 16 years nobody every got killed for no reason, unless of innocent crossfire, and there is no way to aviod that,

Look how band Jane and Finch was in the late 80s early 90s...there were like 4 murders a day, and in the last few years there have only maybe been 4 in the WHOLE summer, until this year. Things will relax they always do.

Sure, it wont solve the problem but the problem cannot ever be solved, so whatever. Do whatever you think is fit. Just know your role and nobody will put a bullet in your head.

I to blame music and society....everyones a tough guy now...everyone thinks there the ****. Put 2 ppl to with something to prove togethor and one will be victorious. What ever happened to beating the **** out of someone and walking away? If your lifestyle requires you to carry a gun when your a teenager, I feel sorry for you. This world is a messed up place, if parents really cared, they would move. I'm sure that if you live in a low income part of town, your not making a huge salary, you can find other jobs! Rexdale is a horrible place to live???Why do you live there? I'm sure you can find a more suitable/safe place to live. If drug dealers want to kill each other go ahead, they server no positive purpose in society. Everyone is responsible for there own actions. I'm glad I have no association with any of this.
