How am I mistaken? I don't recall saying Quebec was in good standing with their money situation?

At least Quebec has good looking slutty women everywhere.

Hey Climax, there is simply no work back home. Fishing was the backbone. They shut it down in 1992 and the cod have still not come back. A lot of people hung around hoping it would return, hoping it will still come back. The majority of the people have moved, to find work. But the ones hanging on, find seasonal jobs or work where they can find it, which is typically Ontario or Alberta. To give you an example, my home town is about 60 people. With everyone leaving it's currently about 15-20. What kind of job are you going to find around a few fishing families? The ones that find full time jobs, are the ones that move. The rest that can find work here and there, have no other choice to move back and draw EI. As the work is not full time or its seasonal work. If work and money is tight, where would you want to be paying rent if the off-season, Toronto or Nfld?

Bruce Fee Newfoundland is not another example. Don't you think it's funny that the Government of Canada, to this day, allows foreign vessels to overfish on the Grand Banks. Destroying what very little of Cod that remains, when Newfies have not fished in those waters for the past 15 years. But the PM is sending our troops over to Afghanistan, to fight in a war that technically is not ours.

Or the recent fact that the PM when back on his promise to Newfoundland and tried to steal Millions of dollars from Hibernia, the oil rig of the cost of Newfoundland, that was promised to the province. It's only because the premier of Nfld fought tooth and nail and was ready to Separate Nfld from Canada that he won.

If Newfoundland and Canada were to separate, Newfoundland would be better off. Again you don't know what your are talking about.

seriously???

I may not fully understand the entire situation but I would love it if you could back up this statement as to how Newfoundland would be better off without Canada?? perhaps Newfoundland and Quebec can make a country of their own a new country - Better without Canada...

we all benefit from each other... no one would be better off after losing a province/territory... wait maybe Canada would be better off after losing Newfoundland and Quebec...

And your Afghanistan comments have no relevance to the overfishing of cod off the coast of Newfoundland...

SilverSiG, I am a proud Canadian and extremely glad that Newfoundland did not proceed with the idea to separate from Canada. But with a government that will not stand up for you, to protect us from over fishing, and trying to steal money from us, not a few bucks, but millions that is rightfully Newfoundland’s. What use is a Government that treats you like that? You have to fight for what is yours already. I'm not saying that Newfoundland is better that Canada, but the Canadian Government has made some stupid decisions. To stand by and watch foreign fishing destroy Nfld economy, as soon as some money is coming our way via Hibernia, we finally get some attention but all they end up doing is trying to rip you off. What are you suppose to do when your back is in a corner? If Nfld did exactly what the Canadian government asked, the province would not exist. If you don't believe me why else would the people of Nfld want to separate? It's only because of the premier getting the PM to keep to his promise that the whole subject no longer exists. The people are sick and tired of getting f**ked over by the government.

Quebec's situation is a little different. They have their own thing going on.

My Afghanistan comment was to show that to the PM it's more important to go overseas and fight in a war that's not ours, but they are unable to offer military assistance to fight and protect the waters of Newfoundland. We are a part of Canada, and we are under attack.

Not that I would want for it to happen, but to reply to Bruce Fee's comments, if Nfld and Canada were to separate, Nfld would be better off. As there would be no BS from the government, and we could defend ourselves. For once things could be done in Nfld best interest, not Ottawa's for a change.

- your argument about the war in afghanistan hinges on the assumption that the soldiers over there are the same ones that should be back here 'protecting our waters'... but that's definitely not the case. It's legal policies that are allowing other countries to fish there, not a lack of military presence. you've built a straw man right there.

- no offense but you said it yourself... villages of 20 people... the entire province is smaller than mississauga - you don't see us getting millions of dollars from the gov't... i fail to see how it would be better off if you left... you would protect yourselves by what means? draft the entire population to the army?

- that's the premise of a country... things are done in the best interests of the entire country not in the best interests of one specific area... sometimes that means some people get more screwed over than others... that's how it is everywhere... there's a limited amount of money so it has to get split up somehow....
