wow, getting some good advice here. well to explain a bit more, I checked out the W600i and the nokia 6682 today.

Personally I only like flip-phones or the ones with the straight slider covering the keypad...I really dont like the W600i style (sorry notorious not to beat on your phone) but its not something I like... I know the phone has alotta features tho. I wanted to get a RAzr but my younger bro has that now and I want something diff.

Oh and the Nokia 6682 looks like its got way more features then I need and once again its a candy bar style which I also dont like. Im honestly only into the flip phones or phones that have a slider like this

Thats the nokia 8000. I beleive Canada is getting the 8801 model...

I REALLY like it but I hear it doesnt have alarmclock or calendar functions which I use ALOT.

I think Im gonna just have to start putting aside some money for a new phone and bump my budget ...

As much as I dont want to spend alot for a freaking phone...but it seems like these lil things will be all we need in a few years.

Oh but this thread raised another thing I was wondering about...Retention plans...

Cynikal- you said something about the retention plane.. now Im on a corporate plan payin like 30 for unlimited evenings and weekends from 6pm, plus I think 9 bux for like 100 txts and voicemail. I got Caller id free n 3way.

I hear if you call and bitch at em they forward you to retention dept and they can really hook u up with something nice...is that true? anyone have experience on this?

Last but not least, your right...turns out I do have to extend my comitment with rogers if I wana buy a phone from them at a decent price... should I consider going to bell or telus or god forbid ..fido

Appreciate all the replies

do u know how much that 8801 is? hahaha its outta your budget 4-fold at this point

retentions people can hook you up but dont really be greedy, ur already on corporate plan and that itself is kinda a privalege, the most u might be able to squeek outta them is the LD (1000/$5) deal...in all honesty aswell, if you're happy with the service and plan you're getting from rogers there really is no point in leaving to start over and also remember bell and telus have crappy phones that you're basically stuck with for your term

fido is not that bad anymore, since they joint wit rogers they have some nice coverage now.

i'm in the process of gettign a hiptop2 from fido, but i might end up returning it to get a w600i out of my rogers plan, i'm still not sure what i should do

but sony ericsson and nokia are 2 brands you cant go wrong with

Fido was/is IMO best value. Before the rogers take over they had lower prices (less reception, but you paid less, if you didn't need to have your phone work in north bay you were fine). Even now, thier prices are still better than Rogers (for the most part),and you get the Rogers network....sounds win win to me....

Hmmm I'm already on a DND $25 for 200minutes and free evening(6pm) weekend plan.

Now only if I could scam my way onto that $5 for 1000 minutes plan.

Any valid ideas??????

my old v66 didn't have 850mhz......I would never buy a phone without it, because the reception just sucks completley....thats why I never ended up getting a SE p800 (or the p900)

it was just a dream...

oh so now this means that I gotta look for the 850 bandwidth or whatever on the phone...bluetooth is pretty common even tho its not in the damn LG 500. Im kinda sick of the razr cuz everyone has it...

so Im left with a plan to build up my budget a bit and try to get a good phone sometime this summer. As for plans Im just gonna stick with what I have but I might speak to the retention ppl and just see if they have anything to offer...not like you loose anything.

Anyways, thanks for the help

quick question and i don't mean to hijack the thread, but what opinions do you guys (Cynikal Mindset I'm looking at you) have on (C,T)DMA vs GSM?

i want to get off bell ASAP and was thinking about switching to a GSM provider (i.e. fido / rogers)

I prefer GSM, I like hte idea of switching phones without having to contact my provider.

I believe that CDMA has faster internet access right now (might change in the future)...

if your going to do any kind of travelling to europe wiht your phone (for business, etc) then you want GSM....

plus it seems a lot of the cooler phones get made for GSM first (razr, all sony ericsons, etc)

i like GSM providers, cause i dont always like the phones rogers/fido puts out..i'm a phone *****, i get like 3 a year, i got my last phone from kuwait when i went.

if u switch phones a lot then GSM is for you, but if u use a phone until your contract finishes then C/T ma is prob for you, and it give better signal in basements and up north (from my experiece)

GSM > CDMA Bottom Line

gsm has more to offer, like 90% of phones are made for gsm service so u have choice of what phones to use. gsm is a world standard service with few countries using cdma (like japan has its own system)...all bell and telus have to offer over rogers and fido is data usage since they can offer free unlimited mobile internet so if thats what u need then ur better off with bell/telus and one of their pda phones but if u want phone service with the ability to change your clothes like your underwear then u want a gsm carrier

gsm global phone use, just swap in an international prepaid sim and u get a local phone number and ur a local phone user, no roaming involved

gsm is just a more versitile service

what if the phone doesnt have 850mhz but the specs say it is ...
GSM/EGPRS 900/1800/1900 MHz
?
will it crap out at 850?

Reason why I am asking is that I asked my uncle in Dubai to see if he can find me a N90 N91 or nokia 8000 for really cheap. Hez a really close uncle of mine and I wont be surprised if he offers to pay for it. So that will clear the price issue but newayz, that specification is from the N90.. any suggestions

yup, you should either see if you can find a quad band or a tri band that supports 850
