being practical....
a good bike would be 600 cc
therefore your options lie within the following in my opinion
kawasaki zx-6 RR (lightest of the 600's)
honda cbr F4i
yamaha R6
personally i would go with the kawasaki cuz i believe its price is in the middle of the other two, go with the red and black colour, plus its relative light in comparison to the rest...if you wait i would say get a group buy going when i get mine...i should be looking to purchase mine around middle of august so i wont have to drive the s2000 to school. my second choice would be between honda and yamaha kind of a tie, both good bikes each has their flaws. I believe the yamaha is the cheapest (dont quote me on this) but it is also the heaviest. Oddly enough, the honda is not the lightest but carries the heftier price tag. For overall price and performance you cant beat the kawasaki but thats my opinion and the opinion of various bike dealers in the scarborough area (ie. cycle world west of mccowan road on sheppard).
Well good luck with your purchase, enjoy whatever you get, I hope my info helped.

one more thing, i have a buddy selling a 2001 R6 if your interested i could have him come by the meet with it. If its your starter bike i wouldnt reccomend anything more than 600 cc, maybe 750 at most but thats pushing it.
you need to master breaking and corners amongst many other factors involved with sport bike riding.

Honda CBR 600 RR, Honda CBR F4i or Yamaha R6.....
600 cc's is more than enough power and very manuverable... ummmm 8g's ??? Your looking at used bike then.... WHat about insurance??? I got quoted $2900 a year for a Honda CBR 600 RR.... Next year ... Gotta start saving now.... sigh....

any sportbike is gonna be about $3000/yr regardless of year or value (assuming ur under 25 and have little riding experience) and thats just liability, fire and theft....
im gettin a bike soon, and im prolly gonna get a suzuki sv650s for the first few years till im 25, then ill get somethin nicer like an R1
if its a 1st bike, dont get anything bigger than 600cc.... u need to learn on somethin smaller to make sure u develop good riding skills, believe me... i know lotsa a ppl who tried to be champs and got sumthin huge, and although theyre not fallin off or anthying, they cant ride as well as everyone whos learned the right way.... and if you think about it, the new 600s now a days are really fast, the diff between them and the litre bike is not as big as it used to be.
the bikes that everyone mentioned are really nice, and u can afford them if ur willing to buy a used bike... but like i said, keep insurance in mind, cuz sportbikes like the cbr, r6, gixxer, ninja blah blah blah i could go on, are black listed by insurance companies... compainies cant stop u from gettin insurance, but they can make the rates high enough to prevent u from gettin a bike..... try lookin at www.primmum.com for online quotes...
but good choice on the bike....theyre fast, and a hell of a lot more fun than cars =)
