Check cables...

Check BIOS...

Sounds like drive screwed...

Get bill and return...

Western Digital (no offence) make GARBAGE...

They have a bad record of use then unexplained premature death...

When working at the IBM Toronto Lab we once had to return over 70% of inventory because of defects..

These went through Western Digital and IBM Manufacturing Q.C and passed..

Sorry for the bad news..

I will take a WD 8mb 120GB anyday over its competitors...

Goto BIOS *hit delete* and check to see if it detects your drive. If it doesnt check cable and power, does the harddrive spin *whines* when powered?

You may have been lucky with your experience...

When working in R + D these kinds of failures are unacceptable..

And to see them affect over 400 new machines is pretty convincing to me..

I see a higher than average failure of Western Digital IDE's in my current day to day work as well..

Just an opinion...
