I am not married, thats why i can afford to do this. I also busted my *** not partying and going to school and ended up with an engineering degree that is paying off with quite a bit of money now, so this money is not something I will necessairly miss.
I am sick of being bounced around in an economy grocery getter. Its a very good and reliable car, but if i can afford to treat myself to some comfort, then why not?
anyways, opinions on 3-series please..

i drive a civic? do i need a car this expensive? NO i am fine with a hyundai accent or something.
my dad has a rx330, but he'd also be fine with an accent.
i also agree with everyone saying to save for a house and jsut keep your car
but its not our decision, if u want a car now then by all means get one.
as far is the bmw 3 series goes, great car, handles good luxurious, looks great etc... only problem is that it will cost you, bmw parts arent exactly cheap and their reliability isnt stellar or anything. but if your willing to spend the cash for it by all means get it its a great car
thats why i suggested lexus is300 earlier, also got a luxury nameplate, great car etc... and its the most reliable in its class (no i dotn consider tsx in its class cuz acura isnt really a luxury brand and the is300 might be more reliable still)

I would NOT go for BMW b/c of the reliability. Yes, you do spend 20-22 grand on the car but think about how much more you'll spend down the road fixing the car every time something breaks down.
If you want luxury and reliability buy Acura, Lexus, or Infinity.

Congratulations, you have probably worked hard to get where you are. You are now able to enjoy the fruits of you labour.
Go ahead, and ask everyone for advice on buying a car. There is no problem with that. I would like to point out that Honda Civics probably fall into the category of "an economy grocery getter" when left stock. I don't think you are deliberatly trying to offend people, but if you are going to show-off, expect people to call you on it. Keep in mind, most of us here drive civics. It's inevitable that you are going to get people on here voicing their jealousy.
Good luck on buying your car! It's a predicament I would love to be in.

my opinion , what ever you decide to buy stick with jap crap, lasts forever, german are nice and sweet cars but can't par with japanese reliability
i would stick with Acura, Lexus, Infiniti
i have seen as 01 is300 as low as $15k in the auto trader
stick with something which is reasonable on gas and meets your needs, as most luxury cars run on 91+ octance , and are usually $70 + to fill up
right now spring coming soon, prices are gonna be up
good time to sell not buy
good luck

Those who can afford a BMW, don't worry about fixing it. People who buy Ferrari don't think about how much the oil change is. If you can afford a 5,000 sq.ft. home, you don't worry about what a stupid job it is to clean it.
I throw "realibility" out of the window when I buy cars (well, sadly to say, I have only owned 1 so far). If I can afford a Mercedes, I am rich enough not to think about issues as such.
Just a general comment, not directed to anyone.

I just don't need people telling me to save up for a house or ask me why i need a car like that. I have already delt with those questions myself. yes no matter how many times i say it, people will still try to tell me otherwise.
i am still very tempted to just keep my civic and not spend money, but its time to move on in life...
does anyone have any first ahdn experience with an early 2000's 323i? it fits my budget and my taste. please tell me the negatives of owning one...
btw.. this site helped me a lot when i was swapping my engine, and various other technical issues withmy civic.. and there are a lot of smart people here...thats why i ask here

My colleague has an E300 (the new one) and last year, she had a BMW 5 series or 3 series? She got rid off it in a year because she said it was in service 5 times during the time of her ownership of the vehicle.
Sorry it is one of those "my friend's friend's story" but that is something to think about. She was rich enough to afford all the services (and some were under warrenty I am sure) but it was the down time that pissed her off. Though BMW gave her good customer treatment.

^ yep higher end dealerships will give way better treatment
my dads lexus dealership is great, same as all the lexus ones when we were shopping around for one they offer coffee and offer to take me out to lunch and test drive and say i can take it home for the weekend and stuff lol. im surpsied cuz im just a retard-looking kid and not adult.
honda dealerships, used car dealerships, etc.. dont go the extra mile.
but the folks at castle honda treat me really good and stuff and im happy with their service

lexus service sucks imo.
you cant take a lexus to a toyota dealership to have it checked out even if you bought the lexus at toyota.
their warranty info is not able to be viewed thru their network and only remains back at the place of purchase.
their computers are outdated and their parts are retardedly pricey.
that said i would still buy a 2000 and up lexus gs400 anyday.
2000 model 323 is garbage alot of problems with the tranny etc from what i hear from my friend who works at town and country bmw.
also downtime is a key i am glad charles brought that up.
sure you can afford a bmw and pay for the services but if the car is at the dealership more then it is in your hands is it really worth that car?
also are you ready and prepared to pay for everytype of modification and service you want done by a professional that specializes in a bmw??? because almost nothing can be done by yourself on a bmw unless you have a good background in these cars. even wiring up a headunit involves alot of knowledge and by alot i mean picture minimum of 30 wires compared to liek 10 wires from a civic.

how is that arrogant? we will all be upgrading from civics one day, and we will all be faced with that decision. Maybe it will help someone in this decision, as it is not an easy one.
Thanks for the input, I have considered the TSX, but with bmw's certified preowned vehicle program, the service they gave me, how they helped me, and most of all the car they built, i passed on the rest of the field.
