need help for university

well, first year went by and i was doing well fist semester. Secons semester i let my marks slip and i will work hard second year. My major is undecided in arts. i want to go into marketing . I have a 63.8 or 64 average. I need to go into marketing. I took courses and i hate them. This is not for me. Can someone advice me. I go to york university. Which faculty can i transfer too. Can i do a Bachelor of business administrative degree with a minor in in marketting ..is that possible. But with my marks is that okey. I got a D in psychology ,which is holding my grades really down. If i can't get in teh program, can i get a petition to have it removed. What can i say. It says on the web site that i need proof. Well, i haev been at my grand fathers house, who has suffered lots of illnesses. Is it possible for me to get a copy of his medical records and claim that i was busy nursing him back to health and thats why my grades have been slipping. And now that my parents have organized a maid service, he is being treated, and thats why my grades have slipped. And that next semester i will improve, also this was my first year..Could that work. And can somone advice me..
please..its 6 int eh morning and i can't sleep ,cause if i can get into b.b.a, my parents wont get as mad with my grades...so please...

thanks

er.. i think you'll have problems getting into bba if you have like a 4.5 gpa... think you'll need at least 7? i'm not sure.

But if this is the first time you want to petition, it's easy, they usually let you off the hook the first time. just get a form from west office about partition. get your prof to sign it, then attach all reasons (your grandpa's medical records etc... , and things like that) then hand it in.

But you know, from past experiences... i don't know if you are a good hard study person, cuz if you are not... i'd say, save the petition for later since you pass the course... it's a lot harder/nearly impossible to petition the second time.... believe me.. tried that.....

actually, look into atkinson, maybe they have a lower standard and can get you some marketing courses. i'm not sure. you are taking business & society kinda thing now? (basically undecided major)

Take a year off and decide what you REALLY wanna do... don't waste 4 years, and then decide it wasn't for you. About the petition, I agree with diesel.

i agree w/ bruno, take a year off to figure things out if you're really not sure what you want to do
i basically wasted my first two years at university, b/c i wasn't in a program that interested me, i took a year off and worked full time in a field that i thought i was interested and that really helped me decide
now i'm back and doing so much better than i did before

if you don't know what do to for a career in life, thats ok. now how to cope with that,

take some time off school (yes like Kristen and Bruno said) but you only do this so as not to waste money paying for a course you might not want... go out and work try the different jobs your interested in, best part about this is you get paided to try them out.

still not sure? personally I think marketing is a big field to go into. hard to find a direction or purpose in that. (IMO) I'd strongly suggest looking at the trades (construction, plumping, mechanics) and the reason why is because so many guidance people in highschools give the strong notion that you must go to university or you will never suceed in life (I loved crushing them when I announced I was going to college, one actually said I'd never get anywhere doing that) and with this push to get a university degree what happens is the trades are being ignored, what happens then? well less workers in the trades means less people to do the work means more money for the people that do that work...

hey there, . .

im currently in BBAS Honors. . .
jumping from the ARTS to a BUSINESS degree is not that difficult if you have already taken a few courses in business in the arts. . .thing is, if your going to transfer in to the bachlors of admin studies, then your GPA might need to get a little bit higher. BBAS in atkinson is connected to that business school called "Schulich School of Business" . . if u want u can try to aim to get into that program....but you better work your butt off.

my best advice is, maybe you should just transfer in to Atkinson and take up "Atkinson Faculty of Liberal & Professional Studies" and ask them school if u can go into "THEMED BUSINESS"

sounds confusing? Try getting an appointment with your faculty or at the Atkinson building and they can explain to you what i mean. . .

hope everything goes well for u.

Heres my $0.02

Make an appointment with a guidence counceiller at your campus. They are there to help you figure out what you want to do. I was in sort of the same boat as you are. I started in Computer Science Honours, decided it wasnt for me, switched to Economics, then decided to switch back to computers.

But through all the time, Ive had about 5-6 appointments with the same counceillor. She helped me get through the bad times.

All I'm saying is talk to someone who works for your school. If your having a hard time in University, maybe thats not for you? But I feel that taking a year off will not benifet you. You'll enjoy the money that you're making and feel its not worth going back to school.

But remember this is my advice, I'm not telling you what to do.

Good luck!!!!!

I knew what I wanted to do when I was in grade 10. And I just work my marks toward the goal and apply for it.

You don't need to take a year off, IMO, you just need to use the 3 months summer period to think it through. Do a self evaulation and hopefully you can find the light at the end of the tunnel.

Good luck.

Schulich seems to be WAY over his head right now.
My buddy just got his acceptance to the school on monday, and he was 1 of only 2 people at his school who got in. And he goes to a private school - Mentor College. So good luck. You will need over 90% to get into Schulich, as well as numerous reference letters.
But its something to consider.

okey...i figured my life out....i am gonna petition to drop 2 courses...a 6 credit adn a 3 credit....then i am going to atkinson and major in marketting....this will be my new major and i will do well in this...The reason i screwed up last semester was due to my ex....WHo i met in december, and my marks went downhill...before her i was a good student....So, i am sure i will do well...Then, after i finish 4 years...Its off to college ,to get a degree in realestate, and work in that field for a bit...Until i can make some money to open up my own company....That seems like a nice life...Now, that you guys have helped me figure my life out, its my turn to make it happen..Thanks tcc...

Transfer dates at York range from early April to late May. By transferring to Atkinson, I think that you need a change of faculty form and on the back of the form, they tell you the deadline for the year.

btw, Atkinson does not have a "lower standard." They are simply the faculty for students that are mainly part timers and hold the late afternoon/night time classes. And I think that all Business Admin classes are done through Atkinson too so a lot of York Arts students, in some way, take Atkinson courses. Same teaching and grading standards as the rest of York...

why do you want to go back and do calculus in high school? I'm assuming that's what you are asking. I took calculus for biology and medicine and the only real difference I saw was that they did a lot of integrals...other than that similiar to high school. I remember that they also had a calculus that used the exact same text as they did in high school for those that felt they weren't ready. Hope that helps.

i don't think that you can go back and take a high school class now that you're in university
but most universities in ontario offer a class that is the same as OAC calc, a lot of students from outside of ontario have to take it since they don't have OAC.

I doubt that you can go back and take calculus. And was calculus a grade 12 course or an OAC course? Coz there's no more OAC!

At York if you need high school for math for something then they have a course that will give you the equivalent (it may be AK/MATH1710... the course number may have changed though since I took it!).

Good luck!
