formatting is good everyone once in a while! i used to format couple times a week when i was in high school! but right now i don't really have the time so i just do a little clean up every once in a while!!!!
defragging is good if ur computer is slow but it doesn't have to do anything with making it crash samewith scan disk! it can basicly be anything! if it was me i would reformat before doing and hardware replacments!
if u had problem after reformatting i would say its either ur cpu or motherboard overheating or bad memory!
but again u have to tell us exaclty what happends when ur computer crash! can u Ctrl+Alt+delete??? do u see the screen? black screen??? hard restart or softrestart? shutdown?
oh and howmany memory modules?
somemore info would be good!

I'd second Si Veloz's opinion there... since you used a game that had video requirements beyond your capability it probably wrote to the wrong register on the card and it screwing things up...
also you downloaded an updated driver.... ussually I recommend using the newest software but after having 10 different computers with different ATI cards in them do the same thing after update their drivers I find it's their updates that could cause issues with some computers....

Talk about an old thread. If you wanna know, it turned out to be the CPU. I had an adjustable fan speed control on it previously, my dad turned it down below threshold and it toasted. Installed an XP2500+ now it runs perfect.

you should partition your drive off into one 10 mb section and then leave the rest install your OS into the 10 mb section , install everything else into the left over partition install everyhing important then make an image of the 10mb partition when your comp ****s up delete the 10 mb partition and make a new one and put the image back in there if you find 10 m isn't enough you can just adjust the size you could do your computer everyweek keep it running tops whenits all setup a reformat takes 10 min u r done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
