Need some of your help for school.
Ok, well this is pretty easy i had to write an essay, im finished, i used a quote... The golden rule quote: Do onto others, as you would have other do onto you. But now i need to reference that quote, and cant seem to find anywhere on the internet of that quote... I was hoping that www.vatican.va would have it, but it didnt. If any of you can help me find it, that would be great. Thanks.

I'm sure you dont have to give notations for that quote unless specifically speaking of when somebody used it like in a movie, book etc...its a common used saying and every tom, dick and harry has used it...its like looking up a reference for "Hi"...so unless you got the quote directly from somewhere u dont need to notate it...the bible and other religious books use that same general saying but its worded more complex like

At least in university, all secondary sources (that is, even knowledge you have that is learned from another source) must be properly documented in order to avoid plagarism. As such, your quotation needs to be properly referenced, both with an in-text reference, and an entry in the reference list.
I am not familiar with the quotation, but if it is not spoken by any famous person, you should be fine documenting it by citing the website/book you incorporated the quotation from. If this is the case, you may use http://www.religioustolerance.org/reciproc.htm, and cite it accordingly.
Make sure you also assess the creditability of the source, as well as its author. Generally speaking, educational instituations (eg. universities) offer a higher degree of creditiability.

Common knowledge or famous, well-known, unknown author quotes do not have to be cited. Just state before the quote, something like "A commonly held 'Golden Rule' for living is 'Do Unto Others....'
To save you some time, this rule is not found anywhere in the bible, old or new testament. in the old, the closest thing is the law given to Moses to deal with criminal punishment, where the severity of the punishment should meet the severity of the crime "An eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth" found in Exodus, in the gospels there is "love one another as I have loved you" I believe but again, no do unto...
To be really safe you could find a book or article that uses that quote, and quote the book or article. Better yet ask your teacher or prof or T.A. about the issue.

Hitman,
I really don't want to pull out a bible but I do believe the golden rule was spoken by Jesus and written down in the bible. The golden rule is alot different then the eye for an eye rule of Moses. Simpoly put it states if you want to be treated with respect you have to first treat others with respect. It's the if someone strikes you on the cheek you turn and present him with the other cheek so that he may do it again. Basically the Eye of an eye rule is a vengeful one, while the golden rule is a pacifist rule.
ok I used the net for some research on this...
site I USed:
http://www.jcu.edu/philosophy/gensler/goldrule.htm
the golden rule appears in Mark 7:12 and Luke 6:31.
at this site you can see how those are stated int he New international Version of the Bible:
http://bible.gospelcom.net/passage/?...1;&version=31;
the first sites has some great links to books and stuff that offer a better look at the golden rule

Quotes
"So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets" (Matthew: 7:12).
"Do to others as you would have them do to you" (Luke: 6:31).
Bibliogrpahy - I'm not sure how you would reference the bible in regards to author. I don't think you can put Jesus down as the editor.

Use google.. it's your friend. If you're writing a religious paper and need some arugments... feel free to ask me, I'll play devil's advocate... I'm well versed in orthodox christianity, the church of satan, and a bit of everything else.
