The new 2006 honda civic SI

No its not the regular post you see about them.
this one is an actual question.

i see everyone saying oh wait for the new si or this and that the new si is better. but isnt the canadian version going to be called the SIR. just like the 99-00 model where in the states its called SI and in canada it was SIR.

if this is so then all you people who say wait for SI or whatever SI shut up and say SIR.
lol

nice try jay, where have you been?

there will be no more SiR as of this year, it's going to be the Si in North America, they're no longer changing the name of the car for Canada...

mind u i think SiR is a cooler name than Si... but it's not my call...

my best guess would be that they don't have the added cost of branding another model of car in the already long civic line (DX<DX-G<LX<SE<Hybrid<EX<SI). Also, you have to remember that most of those models are available in 2dr and 4dr with the only exclusives being the Hybrid(4dr) and SI (2dr). This way, they have one less model to import into the country. This will in turn give them another space/slot to perhaps bring in a different model. Sometime when a company is introducing a new model to a new market they bring a single moderatly equipped version to try it out, and if its successful, then bring the higher and lower versions of that model at a later date. So for example, if they were to introduce the civic to the North American Market, they would probably send the LX or EX model because its almost top of the line, but is not botom of the line.
I have heard that they are talking about bringing the Jazz or the City here. Just a thought.

i honestly don't think it costs that much to change the name here to SiR what... change the name in a few brochures and make some new badges for the Canadian cars...

they changed it to keep consistancy.. they probably kept Si because it's what the US is used to, and the US is a much larger market than we are... Having different names made it difficult to keep track of which car was which Si = EX, SiR = Si... etc...

Ya, I have heard it will be consistant for the 8th gen Civic top model.

Doesn't matter what it is called, people gonna de-badge it anyway.

Also, the navi system will not be available for the SI in Canada. Only in the states. Navi will be available for the CSX

Companies are limited to the number of model that they can import. This is why Honda branded Acura, Nissan branded Infinity, Toyota branded Lexus. Acura is only for the North american market. Thats why everywhere else in the world they are just honda (Honda Integra, Honda NSX)
They can only bring a certain number of models in under one name brand i.e. Honda, so by dropping a few trim levels out of a few lines, this allows them a few more extra import spots. Now they can bring in something else.

You gotta remember, the Gov't has to protect our ecomony by imposing taxes and tarrifs on imported goods. They also limit what can be imported because otherwise the foreign companies would send everythign they had over here and it would absolutely destroy our economy.

Also, the main reason that they have different brands is because along with a brand comes an image... people that buy acura want the acura image... not the honda image... etc...

millions of dollars every year goes into branding, to make people buy one over another

i dont think this is true.
toyota has over 10 vehicles under their name
then they have the lexus division too...

the reason they are branded under two names is because they want to market the high priced audience aswell and its hard to do with competitors like BMW and MB and CADILLAC LINCOLN etc...

afterall who would want to drive a 3.5 RL under a honda name the same name who has econoboxes.
and if you notice under the higher divisions of these companies non of the cars are under the 30 grand market really. which puts them into the bmw starter class which in turn makes it high end.

non of the honda's that are built today are built in japan and shipped over except for the nsx. and the odd civic or accord or whatever like they had with the 6th gen. so that would automatically nulify your statement regarding taxes etc...

i do however think its to basically make the US market and the CDN market easier to control the trim level's.

Which imo is really stupid. cuz SIR was definately way better sounding but since the US is the larger market the name SI remains and the SIR goes. I am pretty sure people will get badges that say SIR on them and badge them to keep the tradition going cuz in a way thats the only R we got under honda. since the integra R was under Acura.
