Most people are immigrants of some sort. They all come with their own customs and traditions. I see no problem with them celebrating this time of the year in their own way. But I think it wrong for these same people to make such a fuss as to advocate that other celebrations are wrong (i.e. Christmas trees) or make other groups feel uncomfortable. This is what I mean. For a lot of people, Canada is not our place of birth or people's values are dictated by a foreign culture (i.e. Jamaican - Canadian). Difference in of itself is fine and there should be no reason to stop different people from celebrating differently. But to have an immigrant or a foreigner change the customs here because it doesn't suit them is absurd.

It's just as stupid as George Bush and his ****ing freedom fries.

... i see... thanks for calling me stupid. I see this discussion has progressed wonderfully.

i didn't say this incident was getting rid of christmas but think about it, it's a slippery slope, you get rid of the christmas tree or rename it to the 'holiday tree' then you rename the menorah, etc etc...

where do you draw the line? which holidays to we keep which ones do we push aside...

and i definitely fail to see why you feel the need to give me the picture of a tree?

lol there isn't a satanism holiday, and there isnt' a satanism tree... maybe if there was we could have this discussion...

also some people might argue that hallowe'en is the devil's holiday too...

why even bring up things that don't actually exist like the 'satanism tree' ??

FYI...this country is a country of immigrants. so stop saying that immigrants shouldnt try to change jack. white ppl immigrated here too ya know! sheesh!

and the so called "customs" that we have are dictated by big fat cooperations. so they're not even really customs. just a way to make money.

i cant stand this season. it's all a bunch of crap. i refuse to give presents for the sake of giving presents...it's dumb. i give my $$ to charity instead. i prefer to celebrate christmas by celebrating the birth of Christ...not materialism. i laff at all the people that pack into the shopping malls and spend hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars on meaningless gifts.

However there has been more than one incident over the past few yrs about public building and there Christmas decorations.

I think there was something in Nova Scotia and there were issues with the tree in NYC in the past.

I'm not supposed to say "Merry Christmas" to people at work. It may be considered offensive.

wasn't Christ born in spring?

I agree with your views on the materialistic nature of christmas however...
