sounds kinda like vtec doesn't it? only using all the cylinders when needed and not using the others to conserve fuel?

Yeah Caddy was the first one to do it in the 70's but it was plauged with problems and required a computer the size of the dash to run it, I guess the idea was way ahead of the technology of that time.

I believe that GM made a trade with Honda few years ago. Honda got cylinder deactivation technology, while GM got Honda V6 for the Saturn Vue Redline.

True, only word to describe it is disaster.
Driving on the highway and suddenly your v8 becomes a v4 and doesn't switch back to v8 until you get ****ed by the dealer.

But now its pretty good supposedly. The new line of Yukon's/Tahoe's/Suburban's/Denali's/Escalade's has it, same with the Hemi's and I bet lots of other cars too, its old news. The fuel savings on the GMC suv's weren't as good as I thought it would be though.

I believe the new odysee has something similiar with its v6, on the highway half the engine turns off (I guess turning it into an i-3)

hows it like vtec? vtec is all in the cams, fuel doesnt get turned off in a vtec motor, all cylinders are always firing (unless u have a bad problem)

it has nothing to do with vtec and it would defeat the purpose of vtec actually.

the tech has been around for years now.
old story typical american company's trying to make things sound "so HYPE" eventhough they already exist

perfect example

"HEMI" seriously that **** is in every car now.
yet they brand it as something special and that it is revolutionary.

fukk that.

exactly, hemi isnt the motor they made
Hemi is short for hemi-spherical head, which almost all cars are now-a days. (hemi spherical.... half round)
we were talkin about this the other week at work
